What Did You Eat Yesterday?
What Did You Eat Yesterday? | Fumi Yoshinaga
2 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
What Did You Eat Yesterday is best described as part comic, part cookbook - it depicts the romance between two 40-year-old men and the many meals they share together. In the narrative, a hard-working middle-aged gay couple in Tokyo come to enjoy the finer moments of life through food. After long days at work, either in the law firm or the hair salon, Shiro and Kenji will always have down time together by the dinner table, where they can discuss their troubles, thrash out their feelings and enjoy delicately prepared home cooked meals!

My first manga!
@Lindy was right - it took me a while to adjust to the back-to-front, right-to-left-pane arrangement, but once I figured it out, it was easy peasy.
Cute slice-of-life story of the lives of two disparate men, with recipes. I enjoyed it!

Lindy 🎉 🎉 🎉😁 5y
LeahBergen I want to try this one, too. The only other manga I‘ve read is another Japanese cooking series called 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @LeahBergen Oo! I‘ll look that one up! 5y

The realism & character development in this series keeps me coming back. There are sometimes inadvertently funny #translations, as in the case where Shiro finally buys baking powder (he has used pancake mix in past issues as a workaround, ie in making brownies). This time, Kenji convinces him to make pancakes from scratch. Even though Shiro gives in, he doesn‘t understand the love of “powder-based stuff” (ie baking powder based). #LGBT #comics

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I want to try these! This will be my first manga - looks so charming. 5y
Lindy @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled It is pretty charming, even though there are some awkward translations. An even better choice for your first manga, especially if you are interested in food & drink, is 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Oh, thanks!! I‘ll check that out! 5y
Lindy @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Allow yourself to go slowly. It might take a little while to get used to the right-to-left flow of the images and text boxes. 5y
