A Nest of Vipers is the twenty-first novel in Andrea Camilleri's irresistible Inspector Montalbano series. Quite a family, you had to admit! A nest of vipers might be a better description . . . On what should be a quiet Sunday morning, Inspector Montalbano is called to a murder scene on the Sicilian coast. A man has discovered his father dead in his Vigtan beach house: his body slumped on the dining room floor, his morning coffee spilt across the table, and a single gunshot wound at the base of his skull. First appearances point to the son having the most to gain from his fathers untimely death, a notion his sister cant help but reinforce. But when Montalbano delves deeper into the case, and learns of the dishonourable life the victim led, it soon becomes clear half of Vigta has a motive for his murder and this wont be as simple as the Inspector had once hoped...

Book 21 of series, 3 more left, makes me very sad. Do you ever get so involved with a series that you wonder what the people are doing between stories, as if they are real? Salvo finds a body, the man was dead from poison before someone shot him. How did that even happen? Add a beautiful woman, a hobo, and sicilian cuisine, enter the world of Montalbano. ❤❤❤❤

Crazeedi @StayCurious I can tell you I fell in love with it. The first 16 books I listened to from library on overdrive, then I had to get the rest. Once you get used to the speaker, it's great how he mimics different characters voices. So his voice was in my head threading the physical books! 5y

Another cracking read in the Inspector Montalbano Series. An interesting mystery this one, and cunningly no police work as always by Montalbano!

Back in Sicily with Inspector Montalbano. This one is a mystery with a truly dark heart. It kept me guessing. I'm glad to say the Inspector seems to be getting over his midlife crisis, his behaviour was a lot less erratic than it has been in some of the recent books in the series.

"A Nest of Vipers" was an enjoyable and easy read but I wasn't wowed with my first experience of the Commissario Montalbano series. I'm pretty sure something has got lost in the translation from Italian to English but it's still quirky, fun and mostly light-hearted, getting 3 stars from me.
