Pickpick

I saw the Dutch film of this book a few years ago, which was an impetus to get the novel when I saw it. Well, novel is pushing it a bit: at 115 pages of large-font, double-spaced text, this chilling psychological thriller is really a short story or novella. Anyway, there are no gory details of what happened to the "vanished" woman, but the effects of her disappearance on her boyfriend and views into the mind of the perpetrator are gripping. 4/5?

arubabookwoman I remember liking the movie too. Will need to look for the book. I‘ve read one other book by Krebbe that I‘ve liked. 6y
Bookwomble @arubabookwoman I've not read any of his other stuff. I got this one as it was the only interesting book in English I could find in a bookshop when we were holidaying in the Netherlands a few years ago 6y
arubabookwoman The one I read was #TheCave, and it was quite clever plot-wise. 6y
Bookwomble @arubabookwoman I'll look it up. BTW if you want to link to a book, there's a little grey bookmark icon under the comment section - tap that and you can search for the book link you want 🙂 6y

Coffee and homemade Chex Mix for breakfast? Don‘t mind if I do! Good book so far!

****update*** Finished. It was just ok for me. I never felt any need to bite my nails or turn the page with dread. Thought both Saskia and Rex were pretty dumb for what they did.🙄

A couple travels by car to France. At a gas station he fills up the tank while she buys some refreshments in the shop. She never returns. #ForReasonsUnknown she has become the victim of a very scary man. A man who contacts her husband afterwards.

This is such a scary thriller. I read it years ago and still it comes to mind each time I am taking a break at a gas station with my family.

#TuneInToNovember

AllenTStClair I saw two versions of the movie, but never read the book. Maybe it‘s time! 6y
Libby1 I think I heard a dramatisation of this on the radio. It‘s certainly stayed with me. 6y
BarbaraBB @AllenStClair the book is always better 😉, but I think it scared me so because I didn‘t know the end! 6y

BookNAround Ok. Never ever ever gonna read this! I do too many long road trips either with my kids or alone to want to even contemplate this terror! 😂 6y
BarbaraBB @BookNAround Then don‘t indeed! 😀 6y
Cinfhen Does sound terrifying ~ I can‘t read it either 6y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen It is! Absolutely terrifying 😱😱 6y
vivastory I didn't realize this was a book. I loved the original film, not so much the American remake. Definitely adding to my thriller TBR 6y
ApoptyGina69 Loved this book and the original film! 6y
Nute Is this the movie with Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock? That movie creeped me out. I dont even like to think about that movie. I don't think I could ever read the book. No...not ever! 6y
BarbaraBB @Nute That‘s the one! And you‘re right. Don‘t read it. It has been haunting me for years now! 6y
Jinjer You recommend the best-sounding books! I just ordered a copy of this one from eBay for $6.99 since I couldn‘t find it on Overdrive. 6y
BarbaraBB @Jinjer Thank you! Just start reading without knowing anything about it, that‘s the best way! Let me know what you think 😱😀! 6y
