I loved this novel. Moody, mysterious, gothic. I love anything set in a college though.

This book is not The Secret History, which has pissed off several reviewers. If what you loved about The Secret History was the POV of an outsider welcomed into a close-knit group of privileged, pedantic prigs, only to witness the fucking wheels coming off as they all disappear up their own bums, you should check this one out. It‘s not without problems, but I always dig a book with that plot premise.
People, I am so loving this book. It officially creeped me out in the best way just now. Deets when I finish and review it behind a spoiler scrim.
Oh, but this is another take on a plot that I unabashedly love, in which an insular clique of privileged & pedantic 20-somethings get embroiled in some terrible intrigue, usually made worse by their own narcissism.
“I don‘t think a man can say he‘s truly lived until he‘s seen the world from up in a balloon. You can see for miles. You can breathe the air. Everything‘s so tranquil up there, and the only noise comes from the birds flapping through the clouds, and the whooshing of the gas every now and then.”
I think the best way to read The Bellwether Revivals is to put aside everything you know and love about The Secret History.
Starting new book club book. Going in blind. I know nothing about this book or this author. I'm not even going to read the blurb! 👀📚
This teetered between a pan and a so-so.And the so-so button reasons-Crest and Paulsen-didn't feature half as much as I would have liked.Other characters were flat and lifeless in comparison. It suffers from the Secret History comparison,as most who are compared to a successful predecessor, but is entertaining in patches. If there's a focus group to increase the popularity of the use of the word wisteria, they played a blinder in this novel!
Compared to The Secret History, which is a tough one to be compared to!
Read the after The Ecliptic because I liked Wood's style so much. He's one to watch. Will definitely pick up his next book.
I'm a butterfly catcher! I knew there was a name for my lack of focus!
While this book ended up leaving me asking many questions and slightly depressed, it was well written and kept me awake, turning page after page.
