I don't usually bail on books... but I just couldn't carry on with this one.
The main character was whiney, the story slow- Lydia sure can spin a sentence but personally it felt like she was waffling and using fancy words for the sake of it- it really didn't add to the story.
Maybe I'll return to this one day, but at the moment there are so many other *better* books to read.

Bought this at Goldsboro today simply because of the recommendation by Louise O‘Neill.

Lydia Ruffles's debut YA thriller is a Marmite book because while Ruffles has a gift for description and can turn a beautiful sentence, this story of, essentially, a poor little rich girl whose journey to self-absorbed artistic pretension is interrupted by an event that (once revealed) had no emotional impact on me given that she's so revolting to her friends and family and because the central conceit doesn't ring true.

This is a tricky book to review as it's one which has a big twist and is also one of two halves. The pre-twist part of the book I have to admit I didn't love. Rich girl in a school for artistic kids has amnesia after an incident. The section after the incident though is gripping, thought provoking and well written. So if you like slow burners where you know theirs a pay off it could be for you. I'd have liked a punchier first half.
