Jane Austen: A Family Record
Jane Austen: A Family Record | Deirdre Le Faye
5 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
This book is the outcome of years of research in Austen archives, and stems from the original family biography by W. and R. A. Austen-Leigh, Jane Austen: her Life and Letters. Jane Austen, A Family Record was first published in 1989, and this edition, first published in 2003, incorporates information that has come to light since then, and provides new illustrations and updated family trees. Le Faye gives a detailed account of Austen's life and literary career. She has collected together documented facts as well as the traditions concerning the novelist, and places her within the context of a widespread, affectionate and talented family group. Readers will learn how Austen transformed the stuff of her peaceful life in the Hampshire countryside into six novels that are amongst the most popular in the English language. This fascinating record of Austen and her family will be of great interest to general readers and scholars alike.

It's reading slumpsville at my house lately 👎 I've been sick for a week, work is crazy and our house is under construction, so I just haven't found the time (for good books, at least). And our library is in disarray, because I decided to reorganize by genre and found we didn't have enough space. Now it's waiting for an Ikea trip for a new shelf. Did get these during weekend shopping at our local used books place though! #bookhaul

Graciouswarriorprincess Feel better soon. I miss IKEA but we are getting in two years! 7y
Jas16 Hope you feel better soon 7y
brennahawleycraig @Graciouswarriorprincess thanks! And Ikea news is the best news! I feel like we waited ages for ours in KC! @Jas16 thank you! Just trying to take it easy! 7y

Graciouswarriorprincess @brennahawleycraig I moved to NC almost a year ago and bought bookcases before we moved. I was so excited to hear when it got approved to move to Cary! 7y
KimHM Good Omens is laugh-out-loud funny. Enjoy! 7y
brennahawleycraig @Graciouswarriorprincess yes! Before it came to KC my dad would pick up stuff for me on business trips, and once we went to Texas over spring break and literally took a truck so we could bring some back! 7y
monkeygirlsmama Yay for books but boo for feeling yucky and construction. Hope you feel better, things settle down, and your find your way to Ikea and out of your reading slump very soon. 😁 7y

This is considerably more academic than I anticipated. It's very in depth.

While in London I got to see some of Austen's letters and journals which are on display at the British Library. If you ever make it to London this exhibit is a must see. They also have the Magna Carta and other get literary relics. My only regret is that I couldn't take photos because some of the items on display had glorious illustrations 😍
