A stunning tale of two sisters and the secrets between them, from New York Times bestselling author of The Weight of Silence, Heather Gudenkauf. When teenager Allison Glenn is sent to prison for a heinous crime, she leaves behind her reputation as Linden Falls' golden girl forever. Her parents deny the existence of their once-perfect child. Her former friends exult her downfall. Her sister, Brynn, faces whispered rumors every day in the hallways of their small Iowa high school. It's Brynnshy, quiet Brynnwho carries the burden of what really happened that night. All she wants is to forget Allison and the past that haunts her. But then Allison is released to a halfway house, and is more determined than ever to speak with her estranged sister. Now their legacy of secrets is focused on one little boy. And if the truth is revealed, the consequences will be unimaginable for the adoptive mother who loves him, the girl who tried to protect him and the two sisters who hold the key to all that is hidden. Don't miss Heather Gudenkauf's chilling page-turner, Missing Pieces.

3½⭐
A story that really relies heavily on happenstance and shock value but with little to no actual mystery. It was more a how much can I shock you by keeping you in the dark…until I reveal all the secrets at play, one by one, kind of story. Honestly, this seems to be this author's MO. And in all her previous books that I‘ve listened to, it has worked, at least for me it did…but not so much in this one.

This was a quick read, I've been recovering from a *truly* ridiculous week of drama, long hours and stress, and oddly enough this book helped.

This is my first read of Heather Gudenkauf, and it's a good one. The story moves back and forth, there's at least one unreliable narrator, and it's got at least a few uncomfortable scenes, and lastly it's not a story where everything gets fixed in the end.

Booknerd2 She‘s a must read author for me. All her books are good! 4y
jessjess @Booknerd2 I'm definitely adding her to my TBR list! 4y

Ok, so this wasn‘t my favorite. I thought the ideas were solid, just the writing didn‘t feel executed very well. Instead of a slow realization and everything falling into place, it felt haphazardly pieced together at the last second.

I actually had a "throw this book at the wall" moment towards the end of this book. So-so (rather than panned) for some of the writing. Wouldn't recommend.

Bad news: I left my copy of this book at work.
Good news: Available on Overdrive!

A quick read I'm likely to finish this weekend. Not sure how I feel about it, but I have a feeling I spoiled it for myself on Goodreads. 😒

Something seemed awfully familiar about this book as I started reading it. Finally after 100 pages I consulted my reading journal log and saw I read it back in 2012! It's still a good book, but I'm moving on to something I haven't read.

LivinginaLibrary I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this happen! 8y

I read this book a couple of years ago because I thought it sounded like a good story. It was so bad I skipped some chapters in the middle because I wanted to know what happened at the end. I can't remember if it was the writing that was so terrible or whether it was just too unbelievable but I really did not like this book at all!
