pickThis was every bit as good as the hype. Amazing psychological study. Great characterization. Pithy descriptive writing. One example - "Harry van Beer ran a small car into a standard lamp on the Brighton road on a September night in 1927, and broke his neck. He was drunk and the girl with him was not Rosalie. His widow did not put on mourning." Must read for mystery lovers.
Relaxing on the couch with my pups, a bowl of apple pb oatmeal, and a good mystery.
This is widely heralded as one of the masterpieces of golden age mysteries. It's been on my to read list for a while and if finally found a copy on Libby! It's even better than the hype. Planning to finish tonight.
so-soI can appreciate the structure, but I did not like the instance of animal cruelty ☹️
pickIt is of it's period. Originally published in 1940, however it's well done, interesting to see the members of the jury in snapshots and then to deal with the case. Twisty and I found it a very satisfying read.
