The Dusty Bookcase
The Dusty Bookcase: A Journey Through Canada's Forgotten, Neglected and Suppressed Writing | Brian Busby
5 posts
Largely drawn from his columns for Canadian Notes & Queries and entries in his popular blog by the same name, Brian Busby's The Dusty Bookcase explores the fascinating world of Canada's lesser-known literary efforts: works that suffered censorship, critical neglect, or brilliant yet fleeting notoriety. These rare and quirky totems of Canadiana, collected over the last three decades, form a travel diary of sortsyet one without maps. Covering more than 250 books, peppered with observations on the writing and publishing scenes, Busby's work explores our cultural past, questioning why certain works are celebrated and others ignored. Brilliantly illustrated with covers and ephemera related to the titles discussed, The Dusty Bookcase draws much needed attention to unknown writing worthy of our attention, and some of our acclaim.

2023 is one month away (crazy I know)!
Is there anyone on #GoodReads that is interested in joining the monthly #DustyBookshelfChallenge?
Every month you post a list of 10 books that have been getting “dusty“ on your TBR. Then someone picks 3 books for you to try and read that month.
It's fun, though I don't always read the books every month.
I'm Chelle on there.

There is time if anyone wants to join this month's #GoodReads Dusty Bookshelf Challenge.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/19871650-july-2019-dusty-bookshelf-challeng...
How It Works: 1) Post 4 -10 books that you want to read this month. 2) An assigned person will pick 2 BOOKS from your post. and recommend 1 book that you share in common OR a new release. 3) You have July to try to read at least 1 of the chosen books.
I do it every month.

Y‘all, the struggle is real. We are getting new carpet soon and I have to box up my bigggggg upstairs bookcase. Dying a slow, sad, little bit every time a box gets closed up.

I‘m trying to sort out the books for challenges, buddy reads, and “but I might want that.” And thankfully I have more bookcases that don‘t need to be boxed. Still ... 😓😥😰😱

I didn't do too badly for my first Bouchercon! The pile on the left (with the Linwood Barclay) is books I bought in the book room. The pile on the right (with the Louise Penny) is books I was given for free. Two of the free books I received from the pub quiz on Friday night.

Sarah83 What is a Bouchercon? 7y
rabbitprincess @Sarah83 Bouchercon is an annual crime fiction convention named after Anthony Boucher. The organization gives out the Anthony Awards. The convention is held in a different city each year; this year it was in Toronto, close enough for me to attend. 7y
Sarah83 Sounds pretty great. Hope you had fun? 7y

rabbitprincess @Liz_M Thanks! I am looking forward to going through it all on subsequent visits home. I left these with my parents to avoid having to haul them all back. 7y
