A fairytale retelling mixed with Irish mythology, enjoyable but also quite predictable.

I really like fairytale retellings however this one sometimes felt a bit flat, the relationship between Eamonn and Sorcha didn‘t feel like it had much depth - I‘m hoping this changes in the next book!

I enjoyed how headstrong Sorcha is, she‘s my kind of character! 😻

It‘s been a while! I started a new hobby during the pandemic and it‘s been taking up a lot of my free time. I thought I‘d get back into posting though with a favorite trope, fairytale retelling. This one is Beauty and the Beast themed!

“Mo chroí,” she whispered. “You called me your heart.”

Oh man, did I hate this book. It reminded me of all the bad aspects of the beauty and the beast, where a first encounter is violent and abusive, and the second is immediately lust and sexual tension? It just did not make sense, and the NSFW parts made it cringy to read. Additionally it was not well-written. There were missing and double words, and name usage in scenes that were written from a thought pov of characters who didn't know the name.

I enjoyed this. I‘m a sucker for fairytale retellings, and I liked the folklore and how much this centered around the Fae. It was basically romantic fluff, but it was fun fluff. I‘ll definitely read the second one. Three and a half stars.

I downloaded this on a whim. I always enjoy fairytale retellings, so I‘m giving this one a go.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I think it really did a good job of retelling Beauty and the Beast with Celtic folklore. I found the ending to be a little boring but I do plan to read the second book and more of Emma Hamm's retelling.

I enjoyed the Irish mythology and historical aspects, and it‘s overall a fun read. However, there‘s a few plot holes and inconsistencies with the characterization that make me less willing to put up with the annoying main characters. It could have done with another round of edits. I will still read the 2nd book because I enjoyed the world and want to know what happens, but this could have been so much better than it was.

The historical parts of this book fascinate me. This part is dealing with how the rise of guilds supplanted what was seen as “women‘s work”. As domestic industries (like healing, ale-brewing, textile work) became professional, women were pushed out by men who were considered experts despite the fact that these had been women‘s jobs for centuries. The author also connects this with the rise of Christianity. Too bad it‘s a TINY part of the book.

Staying up late to read this. It was highly recommended to me so I guess I‘ll see if it lives up to hype 🤞🏼 #currentlyreading

This book has a little bit of a slow start but the main character seems to keep me intrigued. I continued through and loved it. I even bought the second book and loved it just as much. It‘s a twist on beauty and the beast but with the magic of the fae. This is a definitely don‘t judge by the cover.

I love a book with maps!! I love all variations of beauty and the beast!! Can‘t wait to get started😃😃
