Toll the Hounds
Toll the Hounds: Book Eight of The Malazan Book of the Fallen | Steven Erikson
In Darujhistan, the city of blue fire, it is said that love and death shall arrive dancing. It is summer and the heat is oppressive, but for the small round man in the faded red waistcoat, discomfiture is not just because of the sun. All is not well. Dire portents plague his nights and haunt the city streets like fiends of shadow. Assassins skulk in alleyways, but the quarry has turned and the hunters become the hunted. Hidden hands pluck the strings of tyranny like a fell chorus. While the bards sing their tragic tales, somewhere in the distance can be heard the baying of Hounds...And in the distant city of Black Coral, where rules Anomander Rake, Son of Darkness, ancient crimes awaken, intent on revenge. It seems Love and Death are indeed about to arrive...hand in hand, dancing. A thrilling, harrowing novel of war, intrigue and dark, uncontrollable magic, Toll the Hounds is the new chapter in Erikson's monumental series - epic fantasy at its most imaginative and storytelling at its most exciting.

Another massive book in Erikson's epic Malazan Book of the Fallen series, this 8th installment took a long time to read, but I loved every minute of it. Much of the action takes place in the city of Darujhistan and we get reacquainted with a number of characters from earlier books.

Erikson juggles about a dozen storylines and even more points-of-view but it all worked for me.

For those of you who are familiar with the series, the mischievous character is the inimitable Kruppe, of course!

“Emotions are the spawn of true motivations, whether those motivations be conscious or otherwise” Steve Erikson - nothing I have heard has ever been truer than that quote 🧐

Ddzmini @Arcana the whole series (this is the 8th book) is fantastic and it goes beyond anything I‘ve read before the way they are all woven together 😋📖😍 6y

I love the Bridgeburners and their bickering, but in this one there were less Bridgeburners. Also, I wanted to know what happened to the characters after book 7, but there are so many different storylines that only a few of the characters of book 7 appeared. But I love the epic scope of the series and I am already excited for the next book - but I will read a few shorter books first.

MayJasper That looks like a chunkster❣ 7y
