Steampunk takes on Southeast Asia in this anthology The stories in this collection merge technological wonder with the everyday. Children upgrade their fighting spiders with armor, and toymakers create punchcard-driven marionettes. Large fish lumber across the skies, while boat people find a new home on the edge of a different dimension. Technology and tradition meld as the people adapt to the changing forces of their world. I don't really know much about steampunk but I know one of the editors of this book through Twitter and I'm glad I gave this a chance. A short story collection steeped in Southeast Asian history and mythology, featuring some rocking machines.

As with most short story anthologies, some of the stories were bigger hits with me than others, but none of them were total clunkers. I read them slowly over quite a while so that I could enjoy and process each one.

I've abandoned this for months! Reading fatigue, as blasphemous as it sounds. But I just finished a story and have two more to go!

My fav steampunk anthology. Kickass women? Southasian characters? Steampunk?! This book shows that steampunk does not have to be set in Europe/Western culture.

It's Liberty's #FunFridayPhoto time with favorite bookmark! I'm one of those people who tend to use anything as a bookmark (including smaller books) but I'm quite fond of this magnetic bookmark given out by our local library. It stays in place and I can mark the exact line where I stopped.

That little thrill when your home and its history gets a mention. In a steampunk book too!

I was between books so I grabbed this on the way out the door for an outing with the parents. I toyed with contributing to this anthology but I'm lazy AF. Steampunk Borneo will have to wait for another day.

Hurray for university book vouchers! I didn't use all of them up but I spent a total of RM21.70 on these books.
