Charcoal Joe
Charcoal Joe: An Easy Rawlins Mystery | Walter Mosley
9 posts | 6 read | 6 to read
Walter Mosleys indelible detective Easy Rawlins is back, with a new detective agency and a new mystery to solve. Picking up where his last adventures in Rose Gold left off in L.A. in the late 1960s, Ezekiel Easy Rawlins finds his life in transition. Hes readyfinallyto propose to his girlfriend, Bonnie Shay, and start a life together. And hes taken the money he got from the Rose Gold case and, together with two partners, Saul Lynx and Tinsford Whisper Natly, has started a new detective agency. But, inevitably, a case gets in the way: Easys friend Mouse introduces him to Rufus Tyler, a very old man everyone calls Charcoal Joe. Joes friends son, Seymour (young, bright, top of his class in physics at Stanford), has been arrested and charged with the murder of a white man from Redondo Beach. Joe tells Easy he will pay and pay well to see this young man exonerated, but seeing as how Seymour literally was found standing over the mans dead body at his cabin home, and considering the racially charged motives seemingly behind the murder, that might prove to be a tall order. Between his new company, a heart that should be broken but is not, a whole raft of new bad guys on his tail, and a bad odor that surrounds Charcoal Joe, Easy has his hands full, his horizons askew, and his life in shambles around his feet. From the Hardcover edition.

Picture 4/5 of the latest batch of books we‘re getting queued up for processing for our library‘s branch in the county jail. All of the books in these 5 pictures were picked by me. ☺️

Surprised we take any of these particular titles?
Have you read any of these?

After a couple of poor reads decided to turn to a sure winner. Walter Mosley never lets me down.

Pickpick

Mosley is my favorite author and he delivers again with charcoal Joe. Easy takes on a case at the request of his friend Mouse. Bullets and fists are going to fly and people are going to die. Great food is consumed along with love and loss. I get so engrossed in the struggle that I feel like I'm right in there with Easy.

TorchlightReading I'm going to comment on my own picture. Because I have things to say. 7y
TorchlightReading This is the most I've laughed all week. He was so refreshingly funny and surprisingly dirty. 7y

Mehso-so

I wasn't able to get into this one... I haven't much other Walter Mosley books, specifically books in this series, so I think I'm missing some backstory that could have helped draw me in. Still, Easy is a cool guy to spend some time with. (This message brought to you by Koshka)

Home sick today, which means I'm spending it with Easy Rawlins. And my kitty, Koshka (not pictured because she was being sassy).

A Walter Mosley mystery audiobook to get me through building an IKEA bed. Wish me luck!

Karen3 AHHHHHH I just built that same bed two days ago for my daughter in college! Have to say the bed was much easier than the nightmare dresser she picked out from there. Oh the joys of power tools 😋 8y
BBooks Bad news, I hear IKEA beds are the worst self assembly item. Good news, you may finish that book with the bed. Good luck 🍀 8y
Dorianna May the furniture building gods be with you. 🍀 8y
JamieLou We have the same frame. It's awful! Couldn't put it together at first and then it just slowly started breaking. 😡 hope you have better luck. 8y
