Where the Wild Cherries Grow
Where the Wild Cherries Grow: A Novel | Laura Madeleine
11 posts | 2 read | 12 to read
How far must you run to leave the past behind in order to find love? It is 1919, and the end of the war has not brought peace for Emeline Vance. Lost in grief, she is suddenly alone at the heart of a depleted family. She can no longer cope. And just as everything seems to be slipping beyond her control, in a moment of desperation, she boards a train and runs away. Her journey leads her to a tiny seaside village in the South of France. Taken in by cafe owner Maman and her twenty-year-old son, Emeline discovers a world completely new to her: of oranges, olives and wild herbs, the raw, rich tastes of the land. But when a love affair develops as passionate as the flavors of the village, secrets from home begin blowing in on the sea waves. Fifty years later, a young solicitor on his first case finds Emelines diary, and begins to trace a story of betrayal, love, and bittersweet secrets that will send him on a journey to discover the truth.

Prompt: PICNIC

A lost woman, an estate in shambles, a diary, and the South of France.   Who doesn't love all of these things...especially a diary.

An incredible read for me.  I became engaged with the characters and the setting.

Ms. Madeleine has a smooth, beautiful writing style that pulled me in and kept me intrigued with the story line.

Today‘s Prompt: WILD BOOKS

I found one book with WILD in the title. An enjoyable read even though I wasn‘t in love with the cover.

Have you read this book?

Sorry I haven‘t been actively playing.

TODAY‘S PROMPT: SEQUEL PLEASE

I would love to have a sequel to WHERE THE WILD CHERRIES GROW to see what happens to the characters and so I could go back to Southern France.

I actually think every book should have a sequel so we can follow the lives of our favorite characters. :)

WILD DELINQUENTS

The characters were not “wild delinquents,” but they had a wild, beautiful adventure.

“Oh to be there on Bill's journey and to be with Emeline, Clemence, and Aaro to smell the delicious aromas, taste the food, and see the beautiful landscape.”

Told in two narratives. Bill is young and trying desperately to make it as a solicitor. He finally gets offered his first client. His boss wants him to find proof that a woman gone missing 50 years is dead, or have her confirmed as mad/ incompetent. Nothing is ever that simple though.
Emeline has lost most of her family and her home is at risk. One instant's decision will change her life, and maybe save her.
