strong finish. I love the Kane siblings, and all their friends and side characters are so enjoyable. Dramatic ending and journey, didn‘t want to put this book now, I needed to know what was happening next. I hate the way Rick solved the love triangle he created for Sadie but that could just be me. But also she‘s 13, leave her alone. Anyway, beyond that, I really enjoyed this series. Rick, you are (mostly) a mastermind.

Over the last year and a half I‘ve gone through almost all of Rick Riordan‘s books! I didn‘t know if I‘d like the Kane chronicles but I loved them!

#doublespin for December completed! This was the best in this trilogy, but still feel a bit flat, and not a patch on Percy Jackson!

Although it's been a while since I finished this book, I thought it may be nice to share some of the quotes I liked. In any case, this is said by Sadie, who has got to be one of my favorite literary chracters.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Rick Riordan is a master storyteller. He is an advocate for representation and diversity in books and his books reflect that. This is the conclusion of The Kane Chronicles. I'm going to miss Carter and Sadie. I keep hoping for a massive crossover of all his characters.

Title: The Serpent's Shadow
Author: Rick Riordan
Genre: Fantasy
Date Started: October 26, 2019
Date Completed: November 13, 2019
How did you choose this book: I finished the second book of this series and decided to finish the series as this book is the third and final book.
Summary: With a 3 day time limit, Carter and Sadie Kane must find a way to stop Apophis from destroying the world.
*406 pages*

DJasmine The two siblings must perform an execration spell on Apophis' shadow in order to send him back to the Duat. The first challenge they have to overcome is figuring out how to capture a shadow. Then Carter and Sadie have to find where Apophis' shadow is located, in order to capture it. They get help from those who have the information that they need in order to succeed. (edited) 5y
DJasmine It may sound like an easy mission; but along the way, they encounter obstacles and challenges that they have to face in order to continue their journey and save the world from being destroyed. Although they did save the world and sent Apophis back to the Duat, it doesn't mean that it was the end of evil. (edited) 5y
DJasmine There will be more evil and fights to come but as of right now, Carter and Sadie's job is to keep teaching the path of the gods, as their mom said. Not only is continuing to teach the path of the gods their job but also to restore the House of Life back to its former glory and make Egyptian magic stronger than it is now. This is because Carter and Sadie's challenges aren't over. 5y

The best in the series by far for me.
The story is reaching its climax as all the pieces from the previous books fall into place, from the plan to overcome a world ending threat, to smaller threads about specific characters who have problems of their own.
The story really comes together in the end, with some unexpected high and low points, just to keep the tension high.
I'd read the whole series again just to read this book :)

The Kane Chronicles were just.. weird to me. Didn‘t quite fit Riordan‘s style with any of his other series. Sadie and Carter, the main characters, also seemed selfish and dangerously emotional at times. Also, the whole Walt/Anubis thing, wtf? Overall, still a decent series but not Riordan‘s best. #finished

This is the last Riordan book I‘ve yet to read. Until he comes out with more, that is.

GingerAntics Love Rick Riordan!!! 7y
Pluralconstant @GingerAntics he is a fantastic writer!! I simply love how involved with mythology his books are. He is so knowledgeable, and the stories are so entertaining! 7y
GingerAntics Oh I totally agree. I love mythology of all sorts. I love his Greek mythology. I‘ve only read the very beginning of his Egyptian mythology. I can‘t wait to see if he goes to Norse next or Celtic, or what. All I know, is it will be amazing!!! 7y

Pluralconstant @GingerAntics his Magnus Chase books follow Norse mythology and I love them. 😊 The Egyptian ones are my least favorite, but they‘re still so fascinating and I love them. 7y
GingerAntics Oh I didn‘t know that. I need to look into those. 7y
Pluralconstant @GingerAntics He currently has 3 books in this series, the third one just came out last year 😊 (edited) 7y

This was everything you expect to happen when wrapping up a Riordan series: evil defeated, love interests work out, everyone is a bit more grown up, and has actual responsibility now. Although a bit formulaic, this is still a delightful tale, and the narrators do a wonderful job. This is particularly remarkable because even though there are two narrators, when they voice the same characters you can immediately tell they are the same characters.
