The Complete Fiction
The Complete Fiction | H. P. Lovecraft
In the 1920s and '30s, H.P. Lovecraft pioneered a new type of fiction that fused elements of supernatural horror with the concepts of visionary science fiction. Lovecraft's tales of cosmic horror revolutionised modern horror fiction and earned him the reputation of the most influential American writer of weird tales since Edgar Allan Poe. H.P. Lovecraft: The Complete Fiction collects for the first time in a single volume all of Lovecraft's groundbreaking fiction. The book is exquisitely designed with bonded-leather bindings, distinctive gilt edging and an attractive silk-ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable, and collectible, the Leatherbound Classics series offers hours of pleasure to readers young and old and is an indispensable cornerstone for any home library.

Vacation ending sucks but coming home to this gem made it a lot easier. This is from Easton Press the complete fiction of H P Lovecraft leather bound, gilded pages, 22 karat gold inlay. This is an incredible edition and stands as the crown jewel of my Lovecraft collection. #lovecraft #eastonpress #booknerd

Yes, Lovecraft wrote the odd parodic comedy piece as well. Complete with moustache twirling villain. 😆

The Complete Fiction | H. P. Lovecraft

"And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished; for the small hours were rent with the screams of nightmare. Never before had the screams of nightmare been such a public problem; now the wise men almost wished they could forbid sleep in the small hours, that the shrieks of cities might less horribly disturb the pale, pitying moon as it glimmered on green waters gliding under bridges, and old steeples crumbling against a sickly sky."

"There are not many persons who know what wonders are opened to them in the stories and visions of their youth; for when as children we listen and dream, we think but half-formed thoughts, and when as men we try to remember, we are dulled and prosaic with the poison of life."

Lovecraft has a lot of #GreatOpeningLines for #booktober.
Dagon: "I am writing this under an appreciable mental strain, since by tonight I shall be no more."
The Cats of Ulthar: "It is said that in Ulthar, which lies beyond the river Skai, no man may kill a cat;"
The Nameless City: "When I drew nigh the nameless city I knew it was accursed."
The Outsider: "Unhappy is he to whom the memories of childhood bring only fear and sadness."

Leniverse The Other Gods: "Atop the tallest of Earth's peaks dwell the gods of Earth, and suffer no man to tell that he hath looked upon them." 8y
Leniverse The Music of Erich Zann: "I have examined maps of the city with the greatest care, yet have never again found the Rue d'Auseil." 8y
Leniverse Herbert West - Reanimator: "Of Herbert West, who was my friend in college and in after life, I can speak only with extreme terror." 8y

Leniverse The Call of Cthulhu: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents." 8y
Leniverse The Silver Key: "When Randolph Carter was thirty he lost the key of the gate of dreams." 8y
Leniverse I'll stop soon... ?But first: The Thing on the Doorstep: "It is true that I have sent six bullets through the head of my best friend, and yet I hope to shew by this statement that I am not his murderer." 8y
Leniverse Ok, I think I'm done fangirling over Lovecraft for today. But this book is one of my most priced possessions. ☺️ 8y
Boghunden I've never read any of his works :( I'm so curious about Cthulhu because it's everywhere, but I have no idea what it's a reference to. Where do you recommend that one start with his works? 8y
Leniverse @Boghunden If you go to hplovecraft.com you can find all his work for free digitally. At the Mountains of Madness, which is a novella, is arguably his best known and best crafted. But you might want to start with the short story called "The Call of Cthulhu" as an introduction. My favourites are the Randolph Carter stories, but then I am also a Lord Dunsany fan, and his influence is obvious there. 8y
Boghunden I have a "best of" - book with some of his stories, I'll see if it has these two. Thanks :) 8y
