A pair of pigeons have discovered the open windows in my building's staircase. I'm trying to not let it cause an existential crises, even though they startle the bejeezus out of me.

vivastory That would be frightening!😬 5y
DreesReads You do not want them building a nest in there, it will stink! Trust me. 5y
BarbaraBB Lol, did you read the book? It‘s spot-on 😂😅 5y

Liz_M @AudreyMorris Hopefully, between the occasional resident using the stairs and the daily mopping, there will be to much activity for them to nest. 5y
Liz_M @BarbaraBB Not only did I read the book, the plot was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pigeons. Well, right after my heartbeat slowed down anyways. 😁 5y
arubabookwoman That book was the first thing I thought of when I saw your post too. I read it last year for 1001 Books. 5y

Mehso-so

Short Story (audio was around 2.5 hours) about a man being startled out of his routine by the presence of a pigeon one morning.

For me so-so, mostly because of the narration I believe.

"At the time the pigeon affair overtook him, unhinging his life from one day to the next, Jonathan Noel, already past fifty, could look back over a good #twenty-year period of total uneventfulness and would never have expected anything of importance could ever overtake him again--other than death someday.” #novemberbythenumbers

Pickpick

Jonathan spends his life in a small room with a shared toilet in Paris. By day he works as a security guard at a bank. Every day is exactly the same and everything unexpected and out of the ordinary tends to get him off balance. So does the presence of a pigeon in the corridor of his house. Someone has opened the window, which is against the house rules! Reading about Jonathan trying to keep up despite the pigeon is heartbreaking. #1001books

I adored Suskins's novel Perfume, and this novella did not disappoint. Short, weird, and tense.
