I hadn't read the first in this series and was able to catch on quickly. It was hard to get started. The last 150 pages drew me in and keep me going!

Finished my first book of the #readathon last night. Let me tell you, as far as detective mysteries and dark pasts go....I have read better. This book took me sooo long to read that I really just wanted to get it done. The story is good but the execution is just....painfully slow. I don't think I'll pick up the series.
There was a lot going on in this book, but I really liked Joseph Knox's writing style and the gritty nature of this book. I didn't read the first book in this series, Sirens, but not sure if it was necessary. I am going to put his first book on my TBR list though. Official publish day is tomorrow!
After enjoying his debut novel, Sirens, I was really looking forward to reading this. Overall I did enjoy it but found that some parts seemed to drag a bit and it felt like a bit of a chore trying to keep up with the different characters. I flew through the last few parts and found that more gripping. I would read another of his books and haven‘t been put off. #josephknox #manchester #thesmilingman #sequel #detectiveaidanwaits
Looking forward to getting through some more of this on a Sunday. #lazySunday #thriller #JosephKnox #novel #cupofcoffee
