3 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
Anthony Trollope's novel Sir Harry Hotspur of Humblethwaite, was originally published in Macmillan's Magazine, May-Dec. 1870 and in novel form in 1871. The novel offers psychological dissection of the issues of inheritance, filial duty, noblesse oblige, gentlemanly behaviour, repentance and love, all hung upon the story of the wooing and losing of Sir Harry Hotspur's daughter (and heir to his property), Emily, by their "scamp" of a cousin (and heir to Sir Harry's baronetcy), Captain George Hotspur. Sir Harry Hotspur of Humblethewaite has recently been serialised on Oneword radio.

Need I say more?

Just give me happy stuff, okay? Yes, yes love hurts & women in love are stoopid & most hot guys are untrustworthy cads. 🤷🏼‍♀️

CatLass007 In Living Color! Awesome choice. Did you watch the competing Super Bowl Halftime show? I think it was 1992. Two snaps, a twist, and a kiss!💋 3w
TheKidUpstairs Sorry the book was no good, but LOVE your image choice! Three snaps in a zed formation!!! 3w

Pickpick

A quick, quirky little Trollope. Almost tongue in cheek in tone, and much less a saga than his other novels, this deals with a very strong-willed daughter and a very bad suitor. Being Victorian, her triumph comes at great cost. Not one of his masterpieces, but a fun quick read. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

Ruthiella Beautiful edition! 😍 I‘ve moved on to Trollope‘s standalones but not read this one yet. 3y
Lcsmcat @Ruthiella Thanks. I got it secondhand, but I love Folio editions. 3y

LeahBergen This sounds great! 3y
chris.wolak I haven‘t read Trollope yet. Any recommendations on where I should start? 3y
Lcsmcat @chris.wolak His most known works are the Palliser novels and the Barsetshire novels, but they don‘t have to be read in order to work. I recommend The Eustace Diamonds or The Way We Live Now as good ones to start with, but I haven‘t read one I don‘t like. 3y
chris.wolak Thanks! I‘ll plan on reading at least one this summer. 3y

A stack of #RedReads, some are favorites, some still TBR. #LiteraryLove Oddly, there are 12 listings for this book on Litsy, and yet no one has posted about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ @vkois88 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
