This was so good. It took me a little while to really get into it because she throws you right into this unfamiliar place but by the end I couldn‘t put it down. Part Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell and part House of Leaves. I hope it doesn‘t take another 16 years for her next book.

Cathythoughts Beautiful book ✨✨✨✨✨ 4y

This one of my favorite books. I read the physical version years ago, own it on ebook because it‘s lighter to carry and I‘ve been digitally borrowing the audio book from the library for a few years because it‘s great and super relaxing. The loan just expired and the wait time to borrow it again is up to ~14 weeks. So I broke down and finally bought the audiobook too. I might have a problem. 😆

Aims42 Zero judgement, it‘s a GREAT book 👍🏻 5y

Megabooks One interesting thing I‘m considering as far as upping my protein intake without being vegan or impacting the environment as much as meat is eating insects. Insects can be farmed without as much environmental impact as mammals or birds and they can be made into high-protein flours and meals that can be mixed with conventional grains. 👍🏻 I also really like pea protein and would put that in anything!! 5y
Megabooks Plus with flours, you don‘t have that immediate ewww reaction that westerners get with eating whole insects. 5y
Chris @Megabooks interesting. I know there are lots of paths to the same basic idea so that‘s a great idea. I think the point is just to be more conscious about where food comes from. Another thing to possibly consider — flaxseed powder and nutritional yeast are both plant based compete proteins. Flaxseed is high in omega 3 and can be used as an egg substitute in baking and there are lots recipes that use nutr. yeast as a cheese flavor substitue. 5y
Chris @Megabooks I also use flaxseed in smoothies. 🙂 But like I said I think any time people are making an effort to be be more conscious and make a change it‘s a good thing, so good luck with it! Its something I definitely hadn‘t considered, but it‘s interesting for sure. 5y

Fantastic. I wish it had just gone on and on. I‘m kind of sad that I won‘t be able to follow the characters‘ lives anymore.

Emily Wilson‘s translation. I love that super smart and clever (Debatable but so we‘re told) Odysseus needs a goddess to tell him to hold on to something or he‘s going to die. Haha.

After reading Pat Barker‘s retelling of The Iliad I‘m (finally) starting Emily Wilson‘s translation of The Odyssey. The introduction was really thoughtful and interesting. I‘m excited about this version.

I really liked it. I read The Iliad in college but wasn‘t really sure what to expect from this. It‘s actually a pretty brutal version of the Trojan War that avoids glorifying the violence of that time or the original story in any way as it is told from the point of view of the woman given to Achilles as his “prize”. Barker even finds a way to include the gods and goddesses in a realistic sort of way which I appreciated.

Women Talking: A Novel | Miriam Toews

Amazing. Toews is so good and she turns a nightmare of a true story into a story of women taking back their agency to save themselves and their children.

I‘m only reading books written by women this month and I‘m excited to finally start this.

Smrloomis Good on the Bolivian courts but this is terrifying. 6y
Chris @Smrloomis it is, but thankfully the book doesn‘t deal directly with any of that. Just the women deciding what they are going to do about it. 6y
