Starting the year with one I‘ve been meaning to read for a while
This was so good. It took me a little while to really get into it because she throws you right into this unfamiliar place but by the end I couldn‘t put it down. Part Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell and part House of Leaves. I hope it doesn‘t take another 16 years for her next book.
Some light reading before bed.
This one of my favorite books. I read the physical version years ago, own it on ebook because it‘s lighter to carry and I‘ve been digitally borrowing the audio book from the library for a few years because it‘s great and super relaxing. The loan just expired and the wait time to borrow it again is up to ~14 weeks. So I broke down and finally bought the audiobook too. I might have a problem. 😆
🤜🤛
Picked this back up. Not sure why I put it down.
Fantastic. I wish it had just gone on and on. I‘m kind of sad that I won‘t be able to follow the characters‘ lives anymore.
I really liked it. I read The Iliad in college but wasn‘t really sure what to expect from this. It‘s actually a pretty brutal version of the Trojan War that avoids glorifying the violence of that time or the original story in any way as it is told from the point of view of the woman given to Achilles as his “prize”. Barker even finds a way to include the gods and goddesses in a realistic sort of way which I appreciated.
Amazing. Toews is so good and she turns a nightmare of a true story into a story of women taking back their agency to save themselves and their children.
I‘m only reading books written by women this month and I‘m excited to finally start this.
