I got this book as an ARC several years ago and I'm glad to finally have it off my shelves. It was ok but not worth keeping or rereading. The author is an Irish comedian who wrote some essays mostly about her observations as an immigrant in this country. She was kinda funny but nothing really stood out to me. Pictured with the puzzle I just completed after several weeks. My next 4 reviews will be books I listened to while working on it 🧩💚

I'm not sure I would have picked up this book to read, but I'm so glad I stumbled across the audio book on BorrowBox and gave it a chance. I love Maeve Higgins! I'm really going to miss listening to her musings on my commute to work. She feels like an old pal at this stage. I'd definitely recommend listening to this one because you really get a good sense of her humour. The topics vary but these essays are all heartfelt and hilarious. A pick!

I became aware of Maeve Higgins when she started on NPR‘s Wait Wait...Don‘t Tell Me. She is a comedian, originally from Ireland, currently living in NYC. I‘m not sure what to say about this essay collection. It‘s billed as “humor” and is certainly funny in places, but it lacks thematic coherence. There are some very heartfelt essays about immigration, some random light essays, and some funny anecdotes. In the end, it just didn‘t quite hang together for me.

I saw this was on the Goodreads voting list and since it was languishing on my shelf unread, I decided I should see why it‘s a contender.

A charming collection of essays that‘s a breeze to read and actually made me lol a few times.
