A library setting and a librarian sleuth. What‘s not to like? A lot, sadly. The author can‘t decide what he wants to do with the book — cozy mystery, hardboiled detective novel, police procedural interspersed with soft porn. Ambler, our hero, is not that memorable; his police friend, Cosgrove, is not bright; and the women are stereotypes. The narrator of the audio would be perfect if this were a Sam Spade novel, but it‘s not, so he‘s awkward.

Interesting book. I enjoyed the setting, and the characters but found the slow pace somewhat exasperating.

I couldn‘t put this book down. An excellent way to celebrate my first day of winter vacation. Ambler was likeable but not overwhelmingly familiar. It was clear from the beginning that something kept him aloof from others. The cast of suspects had my head spinning as characters were not who they said they were or appeared to be. The plot was intricately woven around the library and it‘s research capabilities. This is a mystery that I recommend.

Just started reading. How on earth could I resist a murder mystery set in a famous library after all?

Just started this today , almost done with it .... Not good , not bad .... Not interesting ...

The title intrigued me and I was looking forward to reading this book. I was disappointed from the beginning. The story is awkwardly written and extremely convoluted.

Great new detective who is a librarian. Can't get much better than that in my opinion. #conlehane
