How to Resist
How to Resist: Turn Protest to Power | Matthew Bolton
6 posts | 1 read | 9 to read
"This extraordinary book is the roadmap for a new kind of effective activism."' -- Brian Eno "This book is for people who are angry with the ways things are and want to do something about it; for people who are frustrated with the system, or worried about the direction the country is going. Maybe they've been on a march, posted their opinions on social media, or shouted angrily at something they've seen on the news but don't feel like it's making any difference. It is for people who want to make a change but they're not sure how." -- Matthew Bolton

For everyone's amusement here is trump baby blimp being flown in protest outside parliament at the farts visit to the uk. (Picture from the guardian)
I can't make it to any protests due to work but if any of you are protesting this weekend I'm with you in heart and mind and will buy you a drink if I ever meet you in person.
I also want to take a moment to swear at farage and Johnson for being up the monsters ass and generally deplorable people.

Cathythoughts I love it 😂... yes a real big baby. This so clever (edited) 6y
Caroline2 Yes!!!! 👏🏻 😆 6y
Weaponxgirl @Cathythoughts no one protests quite like us Brits when we put our minds to it 6y

I‘ve always wanted to be a helper, someone who could make a difference; but HOW?

This book provides the philosophy behind effective resistance and change, as well as practical ways of becoming involved in turning problems into tangible issues that can be addressed.

I recommend this for ANYONE who wants to be the change and actually SEE a change.

The rainbow light from the prism in my window fell just in the right place. 🌈

Samplergal I still haven‘t located this at the library. I “ordered” it. Haven‘t heard anything. Guess I‘ll have to buy it. 6y
Libby1 @Samplergal - it‘s from the UK so that might slow things down? I got it from my library but I think I might buy it, too. 6y
Samplergal I just found one on amazon for 6.75. Bit the bullet. Im trying to buy less, as we are trying to downsize. 6y

If we want to change the world we must pursue justice rather than charity.

Slajaunie If you want to change the world, be a teacher. ❤️ 7y
Libby1 @Slajaunie - you‘re right! Teachers are my heroes and heroines! I am completely ill adapted to do this job but have oodles of respect for those who do. ❤️ Are you a teacher? 6y
Slajaunie Yes I am! I love my job. 6y
Libby1 @Slajaunie - that is wonderful. I‘m way too much of an introvert to do what you do. But I think you‘re wonderful. 😃 6y
Slajaunie I can‘t speak in front of “people”, just students! 😂 6y

“Lord Acton is right that absolute and unaccountable power is corrupting, but so is powerlessness. It breeds fear, anger, ill health, and apathy. The powerlessness of the many is just as much of a problem as the power and the corruption of the few... The real problem about power is not that it‘s corrupting, but that it is so unevenly distributed.”

“Martin Luther King Jr said: ‘Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.‘”

It‘s time.

Samplergal It‘s past time. I‘m adding this one to my list. 7y
Samplergal What about a read a long. 7y
Libby1 @Samplergal - sorry! I forgot to reply to your suggestion this morning. Yes, a read along would be great. I only read the introduction last night. Where are you based? It‘s a UK book that I got in my local library. When you access a copy let me know. I‘d be delighted to chat with you about it. Maybe we can invite others, too? 7y
