Welcome to Litsy!

The protagonist of my current read is a poet by trade. She quickly mentioned Elizabeth Bishop, which reminded me that I‘ve been wanting to read more of her (other than “The Fish,” which every high-schooler in my hometown was made to read). Bishop is a Worcester, MA native (like me).

Anyway, I just read a single poem of hers, “The Moose,” & fell in love with the sound of the above piece.

“As the poet James Schuyler writes, “Now it‘s tomorrow, as usual.” The sun rises, a bird begins to scream in the yard, & it‘s time once again to undertake the complex business of daily life...They read the news with terror & incomprehension... Today is a day like any other.”

Assessing the above statements, which feel true & untrue concurrently right now. Life is mundane, & terrifying, & boring, & cozy, & historical, & full of nothing, &, &, &...

Hoping this will be #isolationreading come Monday, but for now...my library is still open for the foreseeable.

With all the secret shopping going on for holiday swaps, I thought it might be helpful for Littens to post their *most-wanted* books.

For the hashtag, I went with 8 (like the 8 nights of Hanukkah) mostly because it was more selective than 12 (a la the 12 days of Christmas)....but, I‘ll admit, also a little bit so that we could all tag it #Top8 & pretend we‘re on MySpace again. 🙃

Humor in novels can be a very tricky thing. I love a little campiness, but things can too easily go into slapstick. I read the description and was hoping for something along the lines of American Gods by Neil Gaiman, but it didn't quite hit that frequency for me. The premise of this book is campy on its face, but the book itself seems a little too self-aware for me. Ultimately, for me, it just didn't quite hit on all cylinders. #netgalley

Well, I‘m getting there!!! Down 7 netgalley books since the beginning of the month. I won‘t get them all read, but I think I can keep knocking out some more to make it more manageable. I think the next hashtag needs to be #backawayfromtherequestbutton !!!
