#12Booksof2022 @Andrew65 July!A month of reading doorstoppers so only one got finished. What an excellent, nuanced book though.A sort of modern retelling of Gaskell's North and South, set in Thatcherite England.Spectacular. intelligent and well written

Andrew65 Sounds well worth a read, especially having been brought up and suffered through the Thatcher years. 2y

The third novel in David Lodge's Campus Trilogy. A young female academic is chosen to shadow the old fashioned male managing director of an engineering company as part of a government PR scheme intended to bring industry and academia closer. #FirstImpressions are not positive but by the time the shadowing reverses he is only thinking about #WhenIKissedTheTeacher. #AustenInAugust #AbbaInAugust

Pickpick

David Lodge is always such a delight to read. He is witty, funny while meaningful and deep. The book is about how academical life meets with capitalism and although a bit dated, it's still very much actual!
