Last Ride to Graceland
Last Ride to Graceland | Kim Wright
12 posts | 6 read | 24 to read
Lauded for her astute and engrossing (People) writing style imbued with originality galore (RT Book Reviews), Kim Wright channels the best of Jennifer Weiner and Sarah Pekkanen in this delightful novel of self-discovery on the open road as one woman sets out for Graceland hoping to answer the question: Is Elvis Presley her father? Blues musician Cory Ainsworth is barely scraping by after her mothers death when she discovers a priceless piece of rock n roll memorabilia hidden away in a shed out back of the familys coastal South Carolina home: Elvis Presleys Stutz Blackhawk, its interior a time capsule of the singers last day on earth. A backup singer for the King, Corys mother Honey was at Graceland the day Elvis died. She quickly returned home to Beaufort and married her high school sweetheart. Yearning to uncover the secrets of her mothers pastand possibly her own identityCory decides to drive the car back to Memphis and turn it over to Elviss estate, retracing the exact route her mother took thirty-seven years earlier. As she winds her way through the sprawling deep south with its quaint towns and long stretches of open road, the burning question in Corys mindwho is my father?takes a backseat to the truth she learns about her complicated mother, the minister's daughter who spent a lifetime struggling to conceal the consequences of a single year of rebellion.

This made me laugh out loud! Oh, Florida. 😂

Samplergal Haha! Oh, Florida. It is “interesting “ coming from MD. 6y
Bourriquet76 @Samplergal I love when my FL friends share things on FB. Their local “news” is awesome. 😂 6y
Samplergal @Bourriquet76 oh it really is something. 6y
Samplergal I like the news from The Villages. It‘s supposed to be an over 55 community: highest STD rate in the country. Lol. 6y

My lamp is out so I had to dig out my old book light. My book club meets on Wednesday so I decided I had better switch books and start Last Ride. It's a fun and unique take on Elvis. Light and worthy of summertime!

MrBook Thank goodness for book lights! 8y
ellareads @MrBook For sure! 8y

Always a good sign when a book opens with a Bruce Springsteen quote!

MMFinck I wonder how much it cost. Emily Giffin paid $500 for a few lines of Born To Run. I think if the lines are used minimally and respectfully and cited, books s/b able use them for free. Because lyrics, as you proved, do add a lot and using them is like advertising for the artist. I'm a writer tho. ;) 8y
BookCottageBlog Meh, depends on if you like the artist. I don't think that you should have to pay for a few lines as long as proper credit is given - I hope this author didn't have to. 8y
