#GetMovin #Wasted 🍎Going a slightly different path for this one. America throws away almost half of the food we produce. All that waste, while people go hungry is dismaying. I've wasted food myself & still do when I'm not careful, & aware, but I have gotten much better at using up my food & reducing my kitchen waste. These three books-a journalist's overview, a book of kitchen tips & a cookbook, shed light on the problem & offer solutions.

TrishB Good one and we are all guilty of this sometimes 😔 shops throwing stuff away instead of giving to charities really annoys me too! 7y
Cinfhen So important to highlight this!! Great choice🙌🏻 7y
EchoLogical This makes me wish that Litsy had a save feature. I'm gonna tag myself so that when I'm ready to read these I can find this. @EchoLogical 7y

Cathythoughts I really need to learn to use what I have. This consumer society is very wasteful. Great pick👍🏻 7y
RebelReader Ever notice it‘s not chips and candy we waste, but it‘s the stuff that‘s actually good for us? I want to check out all of these! 7y
DebinHawaii @TrishB That really bothers me too! 😖 7y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen Thank you my friend! 🤗 7y
DebinHawaii @EchoLogical I would love a save feature. Seems like I'm always doing screenshots of posts I want to refer back to! 😬 7y
DebinHawaii @Cathythoughts I've been learning & trying & when I focus I do better. It's an ongoing process! 😀 7y
DebinHawaii @RebelReader Hah! Yes that is so true--although the processing in those helps them last longer too! 😆👍 7y
EchoLogical @DebinHawaii I do too and then get annoyed that I have so many in my photos. 😅 7y

Even if everyone only grew cilantro and rosemary in their windows, it would reduce the oil use of food consumption.

Since well before we started growing our own food, waste has been front and center as an issue we care deeply about. I'm in the very first pages of this book which is the section on "holy crap!! Seriously?"

There are so many things we can all do to put less pressure on our environment and preventing food waste is on the list. Americans, in particular, waste an incredible amount of food and if we didn't we'd all be the better for it. This books covers everything from food recovery systems to ugly produce - and provides hope that we can make a difference. If you read this be prepared to feel uncomfortable when you discover how much food is wasted.

I was supposed to finish this for last month's sustainability book club but life got in the way. It's nothing against the book and I'm chugging away at it now. It's an interesting read on food waste, primarily in the US. It's scary, sad, and hopeful all at the same time.
