This story was better than the first. I was actually pulled into the story so much in places that I actually didn‘t notice the horrible accents as much. After listening to a proper Welshman (Tom Mumford) read the first three Welsh Guard series novels, Prior Rhys being called Pryor Reese stood out like a sore thumb.

GingerAntics I still think Tom Mumford would do so much better with these, but the stories are still great without his brilliant voice and beautiful Welsh accent. #SarahWoodbury #TheUninvitedGuest #audiobook #WelshHistory #GarethandGwen 2y

I started this one today. I‘ve been sucked into the story so well already that I‘m actually starting to block out the terrible accent work.

The more of this series I read, the more I absolutely adore it. So happy @Texreader posted about it. I got through the whole book on about a day because I was enjoying it so much. This is a great little series for a history nerd like me. I have to say I am highly amused by the cover art, as that is not at all what Gareth and Gwen look like in my head. lol

GingerAntics ONLY 12 MORE BOOKS TO REACH MY GOAL FOR THE YEAR (and it‘s only August)!!! 6y
Texreader I hate the covers!!! But so glad I found this series too. It‘s time for me to buy the next one 6y
GingerAntics @Texreader the covers are so odd. They don‘t really represent the stories in any way. It‘s an entire series of not judging a book by its cover. 6y

Sarah Woodbury is so good at slipping in these really poignant, quotable moments - almost like little nuggets of wisdom to store away for later.

I‘m on this next book in the Gareth and Gwen mysteries set in medieval Wales. I‘ve had to suggest adding it to Litsy‘s database. Seems odd Litsy skips a book in the series.

In this one, Gareth and Gwen become inadvertently involved in the English Civil War between King Stephen and Maud.

GingerAntics I had that same problem with another series. It has all the books, but only some of the novellas that go between them. So frustrating. 6y

I‘m almost halfway finished with this book 2 in the Gareth and Gwen series and I‘m struck again, as I was with book 1 (a freebie on Kindle) at how good it is. It‘s got multiple well-developed characters and a complex plot. This author is scary prolific. On Amazon she has many many series of books, and often book one on Kindle is free. I even just downloaded another series of hers that appears to be entirely free: The Heroes of Medieval Wales.

I‘m reading the second book in this series now during down time on vacation. Sarah Woodbury was an unexpected great writer whom I discovered from Amazon‘s free first book in the series on Kindle.

BethM Stacked the first one! Intriguing concept. 6y
