I forget that Ben & Jerry‘s is a THING. Since I live only about an hour from the factory, I still think of them as a small Vermont company. Still, nice to see a bit of “home” in this French novel 😀🍨
Vernon is officially homeless, but his friends meet him at the Buttes-Claumont Park. Before he know it, he‘s become a cult leader among the people that gather in the park.
This book is told from Vernon‘s friends perspective and it was interesting getting everyone view on him.
The park mentioned is gorgeous, at least from the pictures, and these books are the reason I want to visit it next time I‘m in Paris.
I loved this. There is something about Virginie Despentes‘ writing that propels you along and is constantly interesting, even when the plot slows down. Complex, diverse characters including homeless people, ex-porn stars & a neo-Nazi. Hyper-real at times and not as tight as the first book but I loved the sense of Paris that is real, unglamorous yet still smart & rock n roll. Droll humour, love the philosophy & theme of friendship.
Raining - perfect hibernating (and reading) weather! 😜📖

Volume 2 of the trilogy that introduced me to the awesome Vernon Subutex and the rambunctious punk style of French author Virginie Despentes. I enjoyed this but I didn‘t fall as hard for it as I hoped, this is not an uncommon experience for me with the middle books of trilogies however.
