Skip-Beat!, Vol. 41
Skip-Beat!, Vol. 41 | Yoshiki Nakamura
4 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
When Kyoko's heart is broken, she decides that revenge is a dish best served in the spotlight! Kyoko Mogami followed her true love Sho to Tokyo to support him while he made it big as an idol. But he's casting her out now that he's famous! Kyoko won't suffer in silence--she's going to get her sweet revenge by beating Sho in show biz! Kyoko has trained hard to be the perfect ninja, and now the day of the Momiji audition has dawned. But the producer in charge of the acting test kicks Kyoko out for having hair unbecoming of a ninja, without even letting her perform! Kyoko's temporary manager Yoshiro isn't worried, though. He knows a little adversity isn't enough to stand in the way of Kyoko's ninja dreams. But are grit and determination really enough to break through the producer's professional skepticism?

Time to begin my irregularly scheduled full-series SKIP BEAT! reread! I dunno if I‘ll finish before the next volume drops in November, but even if I can‘t make that target I‘m gonna have an awesome time immersing myself in my favourite comic.

Cheshirecat913 Yes!! I love Skip Beat! 💓 I have taken a break from reading the newest volumes when they come out because I was dying from the lack of forward process. I am due for a reread soon. 2y
xicanti @Cheshirecat913 ooh, you‘re in for some major progress when you catch up! I feel like we‘re in the homestretch now. 2y
Cheshirecat913 That is quite exciting! It is one of my favorite reread, always makes me laugh too. 2y
xicanti @Cheshirecat913 this is the sixth time I‘ve read these early volumes, and they‘ve still got me chuckling away! 2y

Pickpick

#inspiredbylitsy (since I've decided I don't like the negative vibe I get for myself when I say #blameitonlitsy) and @xicanti.

For me this first volume is a pick on the so-so end of the spectrum, but sometimes the first volume of a #manga can be that way. I love the determination of the main character and I'm already in love with the president of the agency. I had several laugh-out-loud moments. I'll definitely read the next two volumes.

xicanti Lory is fabulous! I think he might be the most flamboyant character in all of fiction. I wasn‘t initially hooked by this first volume, either, but the next two pulled me in. Nakamura‘s layered approach pays off in a big way as everything rolls along, too. 4y
Sace @xicanti I loved him in the second volume too. I think I'm getting used to the writing maybe? I've been reading more straightfoward manga with fewer asides and thoughts so sometimes I'm having trouble following who is saying/thinking what. Does that make sense? 4y
xicanti @Sace definitely. This last reread really hammered home for me that SKIP BEAT! is a hard manga. Nakamura often juggles three or four narrative streams at once, between the dialogue, the characters‘ surface thoughts, and their deeper observations. It takes a bit to get used to. 4y
Sace @xicanti that makes me feel better. I might give it more that 3 volumes. 4y

Presenting my September spending log, plus my third quarter total. I'm pleased to report I promptly read all but one of the books I bought last month, and I started the straggler this morning so it'll get its checkmark soon.

So far as quarterly spending goes, I shelled out less than I did in the first quarter but more than I did in the second. Last month's TREMONTAINE season pass skewed things a bit, but my sad Book Market haul balanced it out.
