One of the four lectures I am doing here in Bandung, Indonesia. What a privilege to be able to travel to different parts of the world to talk about my favourite things. The effusive and warm welcome is quite unforgettable.

I‘m going to be reading aloud weekly on YouTube! I initially said fb live but then realized that would exclude my list fam! If you‘re interested in being read to, the survey link is below. :) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf0qBRkdaUZgwQa9uSiX1xG6hZjDXGnpBaxId2V...

(Day 29: Complementary Colors) Trelease‘s book is a gem. First part is a discussion of the research and filled with anecdotes. My personal input: Never stop reading to your kids. You think they‘ve outgrown it? They haven‘t. l read Dr. Seuss to high school students and Skippy Jon Jones to middle schoolers: They loved it. Last part is filled with great books for read-alouds. #ColormePretty @Sweetkokoro

ImperfectCJ I love Trelease's book! I give it as a baby shower gift every chance I get. 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @ImperfectCJ, that is a great idea for a shower gift! 5y
Johanna414 One of the biggest things I have taken away from working in school libraries for the last 6 years - kids of ALL ages love being read to. It‘s one of the best things about my job! 5y

Scholastic Warehouse Sale 2018: Haul 1 of 2. This is what my volunteer hours afforded me after one 8.5 hour shift. I took advantage of the BOGO Build a Box (24.95 for 2 boxes!) and used the remainder in the general sale section. Notice that some of the best books are piled 2 to 5 high! #BookHaul #LitCircles #ISOmoreshelves

AJones Wow, what a haul!! “The story of Ferdinand” by Munro Leaf was a big hit with my kindergarteners. Lawson‘s illustrations are absolutely beautiful! And it‘s a great message for students. 💜📚✏️ 7y
MadisonCarter @AJones and there‘s a movie to go with it now! I got a few copies of that one. Great build a box find! 7y
AJones My family and I truly enjoyed the movie version too. 🙂 7y
DrSpalding WOW @MadisonCarter I am THRILLED you worked for books! Amazing haul! I just started teaching the course again today and will be sure to share! Keep posting! 💜📚 6y

Artistic as it might have been, it was still repetitious labor done in stifling factories. To break the monotony, workers hit upon the idea of having someone read aloud to them while they worked, known in the trade as la lectura. The reader (of which there were hundreds in the Tampa area alone) usually sat on an elevated platform or podium in the middle of the room and read aloud for four hours, covering newspapers, classics, and even Shakespeare.

Number one grandson went home today. Before he left, he gave us a lesson in setting an example of being readers for our kids and grandkids. Papa and Nana read the newspaper in the morning, and Luke insisted on doing the same.

Alfoster Too cute!😍 8y

#bookmail Since @Ambrosnazzy is busy getting ready to go back to work next week after more than two years home with her son, I can post this picture of two books that arrived today that are gifts for her. She wanted a crockpot cookbook, and I wanted to get her the read-aloud book. I'll buy a copy for our son and DIL after their baby arrives, too.

Joanne1 My slow cooker (that's aussie for crockpot) was the best going back to work investment along with a good cookbook to go with it. I'm sure she'll get great use out of this present! 8y
Alisnazzy Yay!!! Love you so much!!! 😘😘😘 8y
Ruri_kaichou Yes for the Crock pot! I use mine weekly and it's been such a time saver. 8y

#uglycover @RealLifeReading #somethingforsept I have a hard time even looking at this cover. The fluorescent orange/bright blue/ white combo burns my eyes and makes me feel like I'm going to get a migraine. Worst cover ever.
