Prince of Frogtown
Prince of Frogtown | Rick Bragg
4 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
The final volume of Rick Bragg's bestselling and beloved American saga documents a mesmerizing journey back in time to the lush Alabama landscape of Rick's youth, to Jacksonville's one-hundred-year-old mill and to Rick's father, the troubled, charismatic hustler coming of age in its shadow. Inspired by Rick Bragg's love for his stepson, The Prince of Frogtown also chronicles his own journey into fatherhood, as he learns to avoid the pitfalls of his forebearers. With candor, insight, and tremendous humor, Bragg seamlessly weaves these luminous narrative threads together and delivers an unforgettable rumination about fathers and sons.

I love these books by Rick Bragg. My dad‘s family is from Arkansas and the stories I‘ve been told could fit inside his books. Also love All Over but the Shoutin‘ and Ava‘s Man.

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A collection of stories and anecdotes about his wayward, alcoholic daddy counterpointed by stories of Bragg‘s own stepson. This is so thoughtfully written and effective in driving home the different aspects of how one can be a father. I just adore Bragg. The way he writes about the south, about family, it‘s just so lovely even when submerged in sorrow. I met him once and he was exactly how I‘d hoped - sincere, funny, and kind. ⬇️

britt_brooke Paperback pictured, but I actually listened on audio. As with another favorite (ahem, David Sedaris), Bragg‘s stories are enhanced by his voice. His drawl sets the tone. (edited) 3y
TNbookworm I was so looking forward to seeing him at this year's Southern Festival of Books. 3y
britt_brooke @TNbookworm I‘m going to be out of town during that time, but I was bummed to see it switched to virtual again this year. I saw him speak during the festival, and had the pleasure of meeting him, a couple of years ago, and he was so delightful. So nice. 💚 (edited) 3y

britt_brooke @mdm139 Oof, mid-90s is still pretty intense. We are having highs in the 70s right now, which is my favorite, but going pop back into the 80s next week, I think. 3y
Megabooks Same! Love cool mornings for walks. Better 50 than 90! 3y

Today‘s, #vacation #goodwill #bookhaul. I‘ve read Pastoralia but might want to revisit (or pass it on). 😉 The rest are #tbr. The Pynchon still had its old library card in it which will become my newest book mark.

Bookzombie That so cool. I kind of miss library cards. 7y
