Hunting Game | Helene Tursten
13 posts | 11 read | 4 to read
The first installment in Helene Tursten's brand new series featuring the strong, smart Detective Inspector Embla Nystrm. Twenty-eight-year-old Embla Nystrm has been plagued by chronic nightmares and racing thoughts ever since she can remember. She has learned to channel most of her anxious energy into her position as Detective Inspector in the mobile unit in Gothenburg, Sweden, and into sports. A talented hunter and prize-winning Nordic welterweight, she is glad to be taking a vacation from her high-stress job to attend the annual moose hunt with her family and friends. But when Embla arrives at her uncles cabin in rural Dalsland, she sees an unfamiliar face has joined the group: Peter, enigmatic, attractive, and newly divorced. And she isnt the only one to notice. One longtime member of the hunt doesnt welcome the presence of an outsider and is quick to point out that with Peter, the groups number reaches thirteen, a bad omen for the week. Sure enough, a string of unsettling incidents follow, culminating in the disappearance of two hunters. Embla takes charge of the search, and they soon find one of the missing men floating facedown in the nearby lake. With the help of local reinforcements, Embla delves into the dark pasts of her fellow hunters in search of a killer.

Hunting Game | Helene Tursten

My neighbors are big game hunters and today I came home to a massive moose head drying on the lawn. At least they hunt for food, not sport.

5feet.of.fury I accidentally read the 3rd one in this series thinking it was a stand-alone 🤦🏻‍♀️ I liked Embla though 2y
EadieB @5feet.of.fury I got the 3rd one from a swap site so I ordered book 1 & 2 from the library just so I could eventually read the 3rd one. 2y

I love Helene Tursten's Detective Irene series. This book too features a lead female detective, a tough-nut called Embla. Although for once I actually guessed who the killer was, I liked the backdrop of the hunting scenes and forest description. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

I love Helene Tursten and am enjoying getting to know the new detective, Embla. I read the second one first as I had an ARC so this one explained a few things. I love the setting in the more rural areas of Sweden and learning about how hunting works there. I hope there are lots more Embla stories.

This is the new series from Tursten featuring a minor character from an Irene Huss novel. Trigger warnings if you do not want to read depictions of actual hunting- moose in this case. There are a series of accidents then murders during the hunting season and detective Embla- a prizewinning boxer and police officer, as part of the hunt, is on scene. The book is short (around 280) and translated from Danish. I prefer her Irene Huss series. 3🌟

Mehso-so

Shelf Awareness sent me this one for review, so I‘ll save my longer thoughts for later... but, if you‘ve never read Helene Tursten before, start with one of her Inspector Irene Huss novels. I love those. I found her new Inspector, Embla Nystrom, less engaging. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My 5yo only has school 4 days a week, and I don‘t work at Bookmans on Wednesdays. So she‘s in ballet, and I‘m sitting in the hallway reading HUNTING GAME by Helene Tursten for @shelf.awareness! (Ah the flattering light of a Parks and Rec hallway.) #currentlyreading
