Soooooo I actually ended up finishing several MORE books tonight! Haha.

The explanation is too long for Litsy limits, but I told the story on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/B6wy4RdAUVS/?igshid=1e9znmyav14n5 #howjessreadsin2019

Winter Street | Elin Hilderbrand

I read all of these in print at Christmas 3 years ago. This time I‘m listening. Such a fun series! Finished WINTER STROLL today. On to WINTER STORMS tomorrow! #howjessreadsin2019

Coleen_Nieto I just finished winter street and started winter stroll! They are perfect for the holidays. I thought winter street ended a little abruptly though. 1mo
howjessreads @Coleen_Nieto - oh the first three all end abruptly. But there is a nice tidy wrap up to book 4! 🙂 1mo

The weird thing about re-reading this trilogy this week is that I remembered book 2 very clearly... and I remembered nothing about book 3. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ I kept being surprised. 😂 But it was a really fun read the second time around too! #howjessreadsin2019

LibrarianRyan I have this series. I just havent started it yet. I didn't realize it was a retelling. 2mo
howjessreads @LibrarianRyan - oh it‘s not a retelling. Definitely a modern, new story. But it‘s got a very Da Vinci Code-esque vibe. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @howjessreads oh good. That was what I was hoping for. 2mo

Pretty Face | Lucy Parker

I read this a few years ago, but I needed an easy, comforting listen, so I gave it a go on audio. And I‘m cracking up at Lily‘s voice! 😂

(A major plot line is that Lily is trying to break out of her tv bombshell typecasting to be on the London stage, but her sexy, breathy voice is working against her, and she has to go to speech therapy.) The narrator is nailing it. 😂 #howjessreadsin2019 #romantsy

I finished this yesterday, and it is FASCINATING. I coincidentally got the audio and print versions at the same time, thanks to a skip-the-line find at my local library, but I listened to 90% of it, because I just adore Bill Bryson‘s narration.
I‘m not even a science-y person, but Bryson does such a good job of putting complicated things in layman‘s terms, and it makes for really interesting reading! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Sounds good! I really enjoyed this book as well. So fascinating 2mo
Emilymdxn You‘re making me really want to read this! 2mo
Cathythoughts Sounds great. I think it will be our next Bookclub pick 2mo
ljuliel I‘m glad to finally see a review on this. I‘ve been losing out on getting it til I heard how it was. I‘m a die hard Bryson fan so I can‘t imagine Not Liking it. 2mo

Happy pub day to @maggie_stiefvater! I managed to read CALL DOWN THE HAWK a day early (bookstore employee perks!) and it was, as expected, completely wonderful.
I have to give major props to Maggie‘s ability to make me love characters that I didn‘t love in the Raven Cycle. I adored Ronan and Declan and Adam in this book, plus some wonderful new female characters. Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #howjessreadsin2019

TheAromaofBooks I splurged and got the Owl Crate edition and it's so gorgeous!!! 😍 2mo

I never sleep well when my husband is out of town, and the weather has been so nice the kids have been playing outside for hours, so I‘ve had a LOT of reading time.

Friday I read TRB. Saturday I read TDT. Today I read BL,LB. (I‘m not going to tell you how many treats I consumed each day though. 😲😂)

I‘m loving revisiting the world of #TheRavenCycle. It‘s making me even more excited for CALL DOWN THE HAWK to come out!! #howjessreadsin2019

I read THE OCTOBER MAN yesterday, and it was so fun! It‘s book 7.5 in the Rivers of London series and I think it would make a great introduction to the series if you‘re not sure about diving in. It‘s set in Germany (not England like the rest of the series).

But THE OCTOBER MAN offers an introduction into how magic works in Aaronovitch‘s world, and a good glimpse of his sly humor. Plus it‘s only 208 pages!

bunny This book was a great! It was so interesting to see magic through the eyes of a different practitioner. I love your photo of it too! 3mo

Return to Gone-Away | Elisabeth Enright
post image
Pickpick

The girls and I finished RETURN TO GONE-AWAY this afternoon — it‘s the sequel to GONE-AWAY LAKE, a delightful middle grade novel about a pair of cousins — Portia is 11 and Julian is 12 — who find a row of derelict summer cottages on the shore of a dried-up lake. I adored any book by Elizabeth Enright as a kid, and I‘m so happy that my girls, who are 9 and almost 6, loved these two. #kidlit #raisingreaders #howjessreadsin2019

BirdsandBelles Loved these as read-alouds for my girls when they were young! 🥰 3mo
Chrissyreadit These were absolute favorites for me in childhood, and for my daughter when she was younger. I love seeing them pop up on litsy. 3mo
TheAromaofBooks Oh I love these books! Enright's books about the Melendy family were also delightful. 3mo
