The #1 New York Times-bestselling master of international intrigue takes readers into the bleeding-edge world of technological espionage in a propulsive thriller that feels chillingly real. Former chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service Adrian Weston is awoken in the middle of the night by a phone call from the Prime Minister. Her news is shocking: the Pentagon, the NSA, and the CIA have been hacked simultaneously, their seemingly impenetrable firewalls breached by an unknown enemy known only as "The Fox." Even more surprisingly, the culprit is revealed to be a young British teenager, Luke Jennings. He has no agenda, no secrets, just a blisteringly brilliant mind. Extradition to the U.S. seems likely--until Weston has another idea: If Luke can do this to us, what can he do to our enemies? After conferring with both the American President and the Prime Minister, Weston is determined to use "The Fox" and his talents to the advantage of the two nations. But doing so places the boy on a geopolitical minefield. Adrian must stay one step ahead of multiple invisible enemies, all while finding a way to utilize the most powerful--and most unpredictable--weapon of all. With his trademark research and deep knowledge of the rules and practices of international intrigue, Forsyth takes on tomorrow's threats in this race-against-the-clock thriller.

Since my mom‘s library is closed, I want to send her some books. I‘m getting her the tagged, but I would like to send her a couple more.

She likes thrillers, spy-type novels, and NCIS-type books. Two of her favorite authors are David Baldacci and Lisa Jackson (& she‘s read all of their books).

These are not my genres or authors so I‘m asking for some recommendations. Nothing too gory or scary.

Thank you!

Lucy_Anywhere Mick Herron's Slough House books are great spy books - the first book is Slow Horses. Bit sweary, though - I don't know if that's a problem 4y
Leftcoastzen I love Daniel Silva. Smart, sophisticated spy thrillers. 4y
wanderinglynn Thanks @Leftcoastzen 😀 Swearing is not a problem. Just not a lot of gore, or the thrillers that lean toward horror. Daniel Silva sounds perfect. 4y

ErinSBecker James Abel's White Plague and Protocol Zero are excellent medical detective thrillers, but may be too realistic to read right now... 4y
ErinSBecker For spy novels, Alyssa Cole's Loyal League series is good. Historical romance / civil war espionage. 4y
Leftcoastzen Silva‘s pretty classy. 4y
wanderinglynn Thank you @ErinSBecker 😀 4y
wanderinglynn @Leftcoastzen I ordered one of each. 👍🏻 Thanks for the suggestions! 4y
Oblomov26 Alan Furst has a very good series of historical spy tales usually set pre or during ww2. Also if she has not read Le Carre he is as good as people say. 4y
TheAromaofBooks Not sure if she would enjoy stretching out to historical mysteries, but the Brother Cadfael books are favorites of mine - amazing context & characters, & the series really builds as it progresses (one of those series that has to be read in order). First book - 4y

#ThoughtfulThursday
@Come-read-with-me - Thank you for the tag!🙂

🌝 I didn‘t make any resolutions this year because last year‘s batch all fizzled in the early months of 2019. Too much of everything gets in the way. I have decided to read more of my already owned books with greater fervor and determination. I hope to purchase less books, but that is my area of fragility.

🌝 The Fox by Frederick Forsyth

MoonWitch94 I am guilty of doing the same. Books 📖 are my kryptonite lol Thanks for playing ☺️ 4y
MallenNC I have the same goal to read more of the books I own, but it is tough to do! Good luck to us all on that this year. 4y
Nute @MoonWitch94 “Books Are My Kryptonite” - that should be on a tee shirt!😅 4y
Nute @MallenNC Yes! Good luck to all of us with that same goal!🙂 4y
MoonWitch94 @Nute YES!!! Lol 4y

Not that any illness is ever a good time, but I am dealing with my least favorite way to be sick.🤢🤮
A stomach irritation is paying an unwelcome visit and though I thought there would be significantly increased reading time due to an early departure from work yesterday I was gravely incorrect. Today is allowing a do-over...I‘m still in bed but I can sit up. This is the book that was closest at hand.👇🏽

Nute This choice might be surprising to some of you, but books with international intrigue and technological espionage use to call out me all hours of the night. I was always losing sleep over the thrill of this kind of story. If any type of book can get me through this bout of ‘yuckiness,‘ this is it! 4y

On Book Culture:

I‘m visiting Warsaw, Poland right now and I got to say that I am loving their literary culture! Coffeeshops and cafes are frequently decorated with artful stacks of books on shelves, I frequently see people reading on public transit, and it is not uncommon to see ads for books splayed across the city. Amazing!

What is the literary scene/culture like in wherever you are right now, be it your home or on your travels?

🤔😃😉

ephemeralwaltz That's awesome! Enjoy! 5y
Pruzy @ephemeralwaltz Thanks! Have you ever been? 5y
zuzia Hope you'll enjoy your time there! 5y
