This is a review for The Pursuit of Ordinary by Nigel Jay Cooper, a book not in the database. The shirt pic is just too awesome not to share! Ok so the review - this is a FASCINATING book. It‘s a NetGalley ARC and totally different than anything I have ever read before. It defies genre, for me. It‘s part love story, part mystery, part psychological exploration of the self, part story of mental illness. It was really intriguing and different. 👍🏻

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I liked this story, which is a study of a marriage gone wrong, and all the ways people make choices that lead them to their own misery. The characters are a little hard to root for so I didn't get fully invested in their stories and at times there are jumps in timeline that are shaky, but it's worth reading. No plot spoilers, but it's sad.

Another book finished for my #biblioweekend This is a quick read that takes a deep look into relationships, specifically long term relationships. I liked this book, and the story was engaging enough to keep reading, but I did find myself rolling my eyes at times. Some of the plot twists felt unnatural to me, as did much of the prose. It's sad and tragic with no likeable characters. That said, I understand Nigel's intent and this book is unique.

This one kept me interested enough to keep reading, but I never felt emotionally invested in it at all. There are some morsels of genuine wisdom about marriage, love and loss, but for the most part it seemed like the plot twists took precedence over the characters.

Good book with some great writing. I'd definitely recommend it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 Stars. Thank you to Netgalley and Roundfire Books for an advance copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
