So-so is generous. I have fond memories of loving MHC's books when I was a teenager. I pick one up now and then because I love the suspenseful stories. I never expect great writing, but this one was especially bad. The most annoying thing was that all the exposition happened in characters' internal monologues and some action in the current timeline was conveyed by characters thinking back on the events after they happened.

This book came to me courtesy of the #whodunitbymail traveling book exchange before that endeavor ended prematurely.

Painful. Absolutely painful. At no point did the desire to quit this book ease up. I read this book because it was the first in a series in which Alafair Burke co-authors and I wanted to read everything she has written, but I am going to skip them now as this book was so bad.

A page turner....2 mysteries in one. Five years ago Laurie‘s husband was murdered and now she wants to do a series on cold cases. The first one she chooses is The Gala Murder

Wow! This is the first book I‘ve read from Mary Higgins Clark and it was so good! I had no idea who the killer was until the end when it hit me in the face! Also, there was such a shocking ending! I picked this book up because it‘s the first in the series, Under Suspicion, and starting with the second book the series is written with Alafair Burke. I need the next book now!!

This was good, just not great. I listened to the audiobook and there were a lot of characters to keep straight for me as I often multi-task. I plan to read the next book in the series since it was also authored by Alafair Burke and I love her writing. #MountTBR

Well I‘ll probably get another two hours in but won‘t reach #24b4Monday. I read the tagged book for #whodunitbymail and about 2000 pages of documents from the Chris Watts case. It‘s pretty much been my obsession all weekend. (Along with @Reviewsbylola ). Fascinating stuff! I‘ll be back next month to try again for 24. 📚📚📚

Catching up with #whodunitbymail books...
-A Hidden Fire: MIA?
-Behind Closed Doors: I could NOT get into it at this time so I sent it on unfinished. Will try again later.
-The Devotion of Suspect X: MIA? This is a library copy, but it‘s due back before I can probably get to it.
-I‘ve Got You Under My Skin: I needed a light easy read, and this fit the bill. It‘s in the mail now.

kspenmoll No hurry, I have lots to read. Just wanted to buy if I needed to as well. I know you got damaged books! The person I was sending to was one of the disappeared. I replaced one but will post on Goodreads what I mailed - if I remember correctly some got mailed by her. Also I sent @MrsV The Evangelists which she got.😄👏🏻 (edited) 6y

Finished my #whodunitbymail book. I enjoyed it for the easy read it was. Many have told me it‘s not one of MHC‘s best. However, I enjoyed it enough to read her again.

This one is on its way to you, @Marmie7

Marmie7 I haven't read anything from this author since my late teens! This will be interesting. 7y

Unfortunately, the second #whodunitbymail wasn't my cup of tea. This isn't MHC in her prime, so I was disappointed that this was the book that brought her back into my literary life. If you're a MHC fan, skip this one. ⭐️⭐️/5

Read4life Oh! I just struggled with my current #whodunitbymail book and I get this one next. 😖 Here's hoping I enjoy it. I was looking forward to moving on. 🤞🏻 7y

I finally got to the post office today! The next #whodunitbymail book is on its way, @AccioAlltheBooks! It should arrive on Saturday...only two days late! 😬

BeckyWithTheGoodBooks @TheWordJar The book hasn't arrived. Can you track the package and let me know the status? Thanks! 7y
TheWordJar @AccioAlltheBooks Ugh! Looking at my receipt, it seems I mailed it as a first class large envelope instead of a priority package. My guess is that it's in USPS limbo right now trying to get back to me because of insufficient postage. Hopefully it ends up with one of us this week sometime. If it arrives to you postage due, let me know the extra amount and I'll include that in my next mailing. If it gets to me, I'll send it priority ASAP. So sorry!! 7y

This was just an okay book for me. The subplot was far more interesting to me than the major one. Felt like an episode of SVU that was entirely too long.

Reading this for our newly-formed work book club. Haven't read MHC in a very long time, but enjoyed some of her previous works.
