From Jeremy C. Shipp, the Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of The Atrocities, comes a tense dark fantasy novel of psychological horror in Bedfellow. It broke into their home and set up residence in their minds. When the . . . thing first insinuated itself into the Lund family household, they were bemused. Vaguely human-shaped, its constantly-changing cravings seemed disturbing, at first, but time and pressure have a way of normalizing the extreme. Wasnt it always part of their lives? As the family make more and greater sacrifices in service to the beast, the thrall that binds them begins to break down. Choices must be made. Prices must be paid. And the Lunds must pit their wits against a creature determined to never let them go. It's psychological warfare. Sanity is optional. This was a trippy little book! An intruder crawls into the window of a family home. But within seconds he has weaseled into the minds of the 4 of them. Every time they interact they have a new memory with this “Martin” who‘s story & relationship changes with each interaction that leaves the reader questioning who or more like what is this “Martin”.

Mehso-so

Despite its awesome cover and concept, this is not a horror story, though it is certainly weird. 🦆 Too funny and bizarre to deliver any scares, it still serves as a short, entertaining read. It feels hastily written, but you can‘t say it isn‘t original. As a follow-up watch that Rick and Morty episode with Mr. Poopy Butthole. 😄🍷

A short book but I‘m finding that I don‘t really care about the family at the center of the story, making it a slog for me. Bailing on this one...at least for now.

Between a pick and so-so for me. It's difficult to review. This one is part psychological thriller and part fantasy; however, I don't think they mixed well. The thriller aspects seemed to drag, despite this being a short book. I really enjoyed the fantastical elements but they weren't fleshed out enough for my liking. I would have loved a longer novel in the fantasy world - which probably isn't surprising as I'm a huge fan of fantasy!
