This one just came out this week! 👏🏻 It's a fun whodunnit about a despicable man surrounded by women who would've loved to be the one to say they killed him. Alas, someone got there first. But who? Seven women's motives are revealed and it will keep you guessing til the end. 🔪

This one was a messy cocktail of too many topics for me to enjoy a single one of them. The author was very much inspired by The DaVinci Code: a young athlete suffers a massive concussion but miraculously develops savant syndrome, allowing him– among other incredible talents– to solve any puzzle given to him. He's called into a prison to help solve an intricate one, and he falls into a mystery older than time itself.

A perfectly witty romance! Journalist Harper Jenkins is a totally relatable character who's about to collide with a past fiery fling (who's also a nemesis) who will turn her work life into a living Hell... But between love and hate is a very fine line indeed. Review in our bio!

This might be my fave book of 2023! Since their father's mysterious death at the hands of one of their spellbooks, Esther and Joanna have had more questions than answers about their magical blood and the tomes that inhabit their library. They're about to get all the answers, and then some. Across the ocean, another boy gifted with magic is about to have his loyalties tested. Is blood thicker than power? Full review in our bio!

The Sun Down Motel | Simone St. James

The Litsy #TITLESANDTUNES June challenge is #GUILTYPLEASURE. Such a fun one to pick! My pairing with The Sun Down Motel is the song 80s Mercedes by Maren Morris. Pop country is 100% my guilty pleasure 🤫 and so are mainstream thrillers, so this set is a double whammy! I've still never read anything from St. James; reaallly hoping I can get through it this month. I have a week long vacation, so the conditions are looking primo! 🤞🏻👏🏻☀️🕶️

This is a modern day satire about an author willing to do anything to make it big. While I found many passages interesting, some even laugh out loud worthy, most was a very slow burn, which didn't always work for my mood. Some very current debate subjects, though, if you enjoy that kind of thing.

Thanks to Harper Collins Canada for this free ARC!

I was SO STOKED to receive Alex North's newest book as an ARC from Celadon Books. 👏🏻 Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. This is the story of a man who, through death, brings together a web of characters, events, and crimes. One might say it was all written in stone. But what do YOU believe? Come for the gruesome details, stay for the heartbreaking reveals. 🩷

This was the fast paced thriller I needed! Olivia and Park seem to have it all. But inside, Liv is slowly breaking apart. She's just gone through her fifth miscarriage and is ready to give up on her dream of becoming a mother. Suddenly, they receive news that Park is far from infertile. So far 28 children have come forward... and none of them are Liv's. Not only that, but one of them is a murderer. Available now!

If you enjoyed The Change by Kirsten Miller, you'll want to check this one out. A powerful matriarch of witches is ready to change the world. They just need one thing: their sixth witch. This was a great read! Detective Inaya, female and Muslim, arrives in a small, bigoted town... you can imagine how the welcome wagon takes that one. Still, she perseveres through the discrimination, because justice needs to be served for a young Muslim woman found murdered in her mosque. The corrupt sheriff needs to be watched, so does the crazy anti-immigrant biker group. Oh, and did I mention there's a psycho church? My ARC was provided by SMP!

In a summer town, the powers of three women are lying dormant. A fiery redhead will soon channel her anger through flames. A compassionate mother will talk to children long gone from this world. HEX | Thomas Olde Heuvelt

Thomas Olde Heuvelt is a new auto-buy for me. Just when you think things will get resolved, something else thickens the plot. And then another spin, and then another, and then… I continued this pattern for 250 pages, through two meals, and then suddenly.. it was over.

Hex is the kind of gruesome accident you can‘t help but compulsively watch. It‘s the human race at its ugliest. It‘s squirmy and horrifying and spooky and I simply loved it.

I‘m shook. I was expecting a vintage domestic thriller and got a very disturbing coming-of-age slow burner that I won‘t be quick to forget. Damn… that was dark.

What I can appreciate from this book is this: the very real issues of the teenage world of yesteryear are just as relevant today. A psychological caging of your hormonally-charged mind, where all of your childhood nightmares are on steroids.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I read this many years ago and felt the same way… awesome photo 📷 2y

I read this book ages ago, and I still think about it from time to time. Enthusiasm was all Chanel had in the beginning; surrounded by hunger and poverty. LeahBergen That would be a favourite trope of mine, too. I also have a thing for country house murders. 😆 3y

paper.reveries @LeahBergen Ohh interesting. I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a country house murder! Do you have a book example? 3y
Avanders Oooh sounds great! Thriller in a gothic setting? 🤩 (edited) 3y
paper.reveries @Avanders Exactly! It really surprised me in its profoundness, though. Some big questions on humanity. A superb read! 3y
Freespirit This sounds great! 3y
paper.reveries @Freespirit It truly is! 3y

The Shining | Stephen King

Thanks to @MoonWitch94 for tagging me in this challenge!

1) This year I didn‘t! But it was a blessing in disguise, because the snow has already fully covered the ground. It would‘ve looked like a giant orange raisin within a couple days. 😂😂

2) Whiite!

3) The Shining remains the book that gave me the deepest feeling of fear I‘ve had reading, ever.

Anyone can do this, but I also tagged some o‘ you #littens!

#thoughtfulthursday #newtolitsy

Eggs Thanks for the tag 💕I played this AM😊 3y
paper.reveries @Eggs oops! Thanks for commenting anyways :) 3y

myellenbee Huh, white pumpkins aren't around in our area. I didnt know it was a choice. Any white I've ever seen are some artificial white ones in hobby stores. Do they carve and hold up the same? 3y
paper.reveries @myellenbee I‘ve never seen them naturally, either. :( My friend paints them hahaha If we had white ones here, though, I would pick them! 3y
MoonWitch94 @myellenbee @daisyheadmaesie I got to pick white ones this year! Very cool & very huge! I needed a wagon for mine. 3y
paper.reveries @MoonWitch94 Wooahhh! That's awesome! Did you carve them and everything? 3y
MoonWitch94 Not yet. Tomorrow night! 3y

Winter Counts: A Novel | David Heska Wanbli Weiden

CURRENTLY READING 📖 This is my first ever full-length novel on an eReader. Squeee! 👏🏻 So far I‘m quite attached to the characters. Are you an eBook or a paperback kind of reader?

BookDragonNotWorm I still love the smell of paper books but I only read e-books now so I can read in the dark, highlight passages without defacing a page, bring 100 books with me in the palm of my hand....😂 3y
paper.reveries @BookDragonNotWorm It is SO EASY, right?! But yes, there is nothing quite like the smell and feel of paper. But portability, I mean, wow. I‘m amazed at how light and simple my eReader is! 3y
Smarkies Paperback for me as I love the feel of an actual book. 📖 3y

paper.reveries @Smarkies I'm with you on that! :) 3y
LeahBergen Paper books all the way for me! 😆😆 3y
paper.reveries @LeahBergen Haha it isn‘t surprising that physical books are winning this debate 😂 3y
Texreader Both! I generally have one IRL (in real life) book, one ebook, and one audiobook going at the same time. 3y
paper.reveries @Texreader That‘s impressive! Do you have specific genres you read in each format? Or do you go about it less methodically? 3y
Texreader This year I‘ve been very methodical because I I‘m doing so many challenges and readathons on Litsy. It‘s a blast! My fave go-to genre is historical fiction. So I go with that generally for all formats but these challenges really force you to read new genres, which mostly can be fun but sometimes really really bad when you find a style or author you really don‘t like. 3y
paper.reveries @Texreader What a great way to step out of your comfort zone! Do you have any Litsy challenges to recommend? Something I could start for next month, maybe? Dunno how soon they bring the challenges out for the upcoming month. 🤔🤔 3y
Smarkies @daisyheadmaesie I don't do many challenges on litsy but this year I am doing the #Booked2020 one which is a whole lot of fun because it is making me read out of my wheelhouse. I also am doing the #nonfiction2020 one. I think alot of people are taking part in the screamathon one now. Just keep an eye out for hashtags. Something always comes up. 😂😂 3y
paper.reveries @Smarkies Ohh I will check those out! I have so many nonfictions that need reading, maybe I‘ll dedicate Dec to those! :) 3y
Smarkies @daisyheadmaesie there also may be a nonfiction November challenge coming up.... There was one last year that was quite fun. 3y
Smarkies @daisyheadmaesie check out the hashtag #nfn2020 for this year's one. 3y
paper.reveries @Smarkies Wicked! Thanks! 3y
LiteraryinLawrence I got my first ereader earlier in the pandemic. It was when the library was still physically closed but you could borrow ebooks, and the Kindle was SO great because I had access to library books again. Now that our library is open to borrow physical books again, I‘d prefer to read a paperback, but I still read ebooks too. 3y
paper.reveries @LiteraryinLititz I feel like many people converted due to the pandemic. No more book shopping, no more sharing stuff, everything at your fingertips. :) 3y

Pickpick

Absolutely devoured this book! A sister‘s love; there‘s nothing fiercer. You know the saying, I‘d help you hide the body.. Would you really do it to protect her?

Korede‘s younger sister Ayoola has got it all, adored by all who cross her path. Her biggest flaw is.. well, she‘s a serial killer. And how Korede deals with it will stay with you for a long time. I loved the pace! The setting was realistic, the characters were dysfunctional perfection.

Laughterhp I‘m just about to pick this one up! 3y
paper.reveries @Laughterhp I think you're gonna dig it!! Such a quick read. 3y
Texreader Excellent review! 3y

paper.reveries @Texreader Thank you! 😊 3y
Reggie I love the part where Korede is thinking about everything that needs to be worried about and Ayoola is dancing to Whitney Houston with no care in the world. Lol. Welcome to Litsy! 3y
paper.reveries @Reggie That moment is the total embodiment of their personalities! And thank you very much. I am loving Litsy so far. :) 3y
DaveGreen7777 Welcome to Litsy, Daisy! This is such a friendly community, I hope you enjoy your time here! 🥳🎉📚 3y
paper.reveries @DaveGreen7777 Thanks so much! I‘m really enjoying myself. I simply love how much more laid back it is compared to the Bookstagram world... Too many rules, too many algorithms. This feels WAY more organic and sincere! 3y
DebinHawaii Welcome to Litsy!! 🎉📚🎉 Hope you enjoy it here. 3y
DebinHawaii And I loved this book too! It was a great audiobook! 💚 3y
paper.reveries @DebinHawaii Thanks, Deb! I can imagine it would be a great audiobook. Who voiced it? 3y
DebinHawaii @daisyheadmaesie I had to go back and look. 😉It was Adepero Oduye. She‘s an actress. 3y
paper.reveries @DebinHawaii Checked on IMDB, I don‘t recognize her! I need to check out The Dinner Party, though!! 3y
tpixie Welcome to Litsy! Check out @LitsyWelcomeWagon and @LitsyHappenings Look at the books you like, then see who read and like them and friend them!! Really everyone is friendly! 3y
