A wonderful picture book about Mary Shelley and her creation of one of the most iconic monsters in literature.
My family's Christmas was a little wonky last year, and we weren't able to celebrate together. So I've been getting presents periodically and I'm not mad about it. 😎 These are from my Mom and they look so good!!!
#LetsTravelAugust Day 22: While this version did not include the time Mary Shelley was sent off to live with strangers in Scotland, it focused on a time at Lord Byron‘s house when five friends came together and decided to write a scary story; and thus, Frankenstein was born in Shelley‘s mind. The art in this would have creeped me out as a kid, but it is fitting for the story. Overall, this is an enjoyable, age-appropriate telling of the origins of Mary Shelley‘s work. But, and this is big, IT ISN‘T TRUE. The author states that she has taken liberties with what happened, & that‘s fine for a fiction book, but not for a book that purports to be an account of a true event. Not okay, especially since it isn‘t mentioned until the very end.
Mary Shelley, reading her mother's books. #charactersreading
