Jerusalem: Chronicles from the Holy City | Guy Delisle
7 posts | 19 read | 14 to read
"Delisle explores the complexities of a city that represents so much to so many. He eloquently examines the impact of the conflict on the lives of people on both sides of the wall while drolly recounting the quotidian: checkpoints, traffic jams, and holidays. When observing the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim populations that call Jerusalem home, Delisle's drawn line is both sensitive and fair, assuming nothing and drawing everything" -- paper band on book.

Great #travelogue about living for a year in Jerusalem. I feel like Delisle just gets better and better. There's so much in this book that it's quite difficult to pick something to highlight. #comics #graphicnovels #graphicnovel

UrsulaMonarch I'm going to add a to do in Habitica to request all these 💚 7y

well.read.panda @GatheringBooks yup, I've read Sacco too! Both good analyses of the situation. I like Delisle's drawing style more, personally. 7y

Wow! That was powerful read💥🌟☄️I had no idea about walls and sectors and how bad Palestinians are treated in Jerusalem👿 and those multiple Ultra-orthodox religions with multiple complicated rules. I only hope that the situation is a little bit better since 2007 when the author experienced this one year trip, but consider the history between these two countries this hope is vogue((((

Getting stuck into a new Guy Delisle that turned up this morning. I loved his take on North Korea, now for Jerusalem... #marchintoreading #recentnonfictionread

This is the memoir of the author who has travelled with his partner (who works for MSF) and children to the region, where they live in the unoccupied West Bank. It explores some of the day-to-day difficulties of living in the region but also looks at the larger issues of an outsider learning about the culture. The brevity of language required in a graphic book has a way of cutting right to the heart of a specific moment/issue. Thought provoking.

Expanding my reading horizons. I haven't read a lot of graphic novels/books - before reading Fun Home the other day, my graphic book reading experience was pretty much limited to Maus and Persepolis. But I was wandering in the library last night and stumbled onto the graphic books section and grabbed a couple to try out. So far this is utterly engaging.

Some non fiction for today #septphotochallenge.
It's quite the mixed bag as I don't really have a favourite sub genre.😊
