The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton

GRACE ATHERTON HAS FALLEN OUT OF LOVE ... AND INTO LIFE 'I adored this book! Exquisitely crafted, it's a compassionate, heart-wrenching and ultimately uplifting tale of Grace and David's complicated love that will keep you turning the pages. Read it. Like some of Grace's decisions, it's an absolute triumph' Fionnuala Kearney Between the simple melody of running her violin shop and the full-blown orchestra of her romantic interludes in Paris with David, her devoted partner of eight years, Grace Atherton has always set her life to music. Her world revolves entirely around David, for Grace's own secrets have kept everyone else at bay. Until, suddenly and shockingly, one act tips Grace's life upside down, and the music seems to stop. It takes a vivacious old man and a straight-talking teenager to kickstart a new chapter for Grace. In the process, she learns that she is not as alone in the world as she had once thought, that no mistake is insurmountable, and that the quiet moments in life can be something to shout about ... For fans of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and The Keeper of Lost Things, The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton is the story of a woman who has her heart broken, but then puts it back together again in the most uplifting and exquisite way.

A lot of my favourite books have the theme of music as a central part of the plot, and I think that was partly why I enjoyed this one so much!

Gorgeous book. I love stories where characters develop and mature in such a way that their outlook on life changes. Grace, Mr Williams and Nadia have a friendship that spans their different times of life. They each are facing their own demons but are always there for each other. Throw in some magical music and a prestigious competition and you have a winner.

This is about Grace, Nadia and Mr Williams and how their lives are all connected by music. It delves into Nadia's past and we find out why she doesn't play the cello in public! I really enjoyed this book and the three main characters. #bookcovers

A lovely book. The main character is both relatable and true. I was rooting for her throughout. Throw in the nod to classical music and I was hooked.

This is such a sweet story. I almost don‘t even know what to say about it, other than I really enjoyed it and have a little warm feeling in my belly on finishing it. I thought Mr Williams was a great character - such a kind old man, I would‘ve liked to visit him in Venice. Just lovely.

TrishB I enjoyed it too 👍🏻 5y
Laru79 @TrishB it was nice wasn‘t it? Just the kind of sweet story I needed! 5y

Started on this one as the author has agreed to come and talk at my library!! It‘ll be next year I think. I‘m already rooting for Grace and hoping she gets some gumption, ditches the bloke, plays her cello and finds lots more joy!

A quick, feel good read 😁 not my usual sort of book but occasionally we all need something light and uplifting. I‘m glad the author went for the ending she did because otherwise I‘d have been really annoyed! (Obviously won‘t say because of spoiler!)

Cathythoughts I see The Whisper Man on your kindle 😀... ( not really being nosy, well maybe a bit 🙊) I‘ll be dying to know what you think when you get there 5y
TrishB @Cathythoughts I brought this because of you 😁 I‘m always nosy for peoples books!! 5y

I can't be objective about this book, I just absolutely adored every single word of it. I'm actually tempted to start again! Oooh and also, the author follows me on Instagram 🙊 and is as thoroughly lovely and witty and bohemian as I like wonderful authors to be! (ft new book light, little gift from my mother)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is quite a quick read. It looks at the devastation of losing those we love in many different ways. Grace really does through the wringer in this and we follow her through every emotion. She's an easily likeable character despite some of her actions. The story was interesting and the ending was utterly perfect. I was worried it might end another way and I'm so glad it didn't.
