Pickpick

I didn‘t know anything about this book or author going into this. The author wrote this book as a farewell to her 2-year-old daughter as she was dying from pancreatic cancer at age 35. So sweet as it subtly shows the change in their relationship as she gets sicker, I‘m not gonna lie, I‘m fighting back tears now. Jace enjoyed hearing a few French words (mommy is currently learning French!) and the beautiful illustrations. 5âï¸

#Canadian cartoonist Genevieve Castree was dying of pancreatic cancer when she created this book as a legacy of love for her 2-year-old daughter. A heartbreaking story, yet it‘s also gorgeous and comforting. I can imagine it being treasured by families going through similar circumstances. Its cardboard pages and stubby shape is especially designed for toddlers. Its content is meaningful for all ages. #kidlit

Every part of this book is used to convey the story, including the final goodbye on the back cover.

I am amazed to see the topic of a mother‘s terminal illness dealt with so well, so tenderly, in this boardbook intended for a toddler audience.
