For fans of Jodi Picoult and Anna Quindlen, comes an astonishingly profoundexquisitely written drama (Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Pictures of You) about a husband and a wife, a missing child, and the complicated family secrets that can derail even the best of marriages. Its been a busyand expensivefew years for Matt and Elise Sorenson and their young daughter Gracie, whom they affectionately call Little Green. Matt, a Manhattan lawyer, has just been offered a partnership, and Elises equestrian ambitions as a competitive dressage rider may finally vault her into the Olympics. But her long absences from home and endless hours of training have strained their relationships nearly to the breaking point. Now theyre up in the Adirondacks, preparing to sell the valuable lakefront cabin thats been in Matts family for generations. Both he and Elise agree its time to let it go. But as they navigate the memories the cabin holdsand come face to face with Matts teenage crush, now an unnervingly attractive single mother living right next doorGracie disappears without a trace. Faced with the possibility that theyll never see their daughter again, Elise and Matt struggle to come to terms with what their future may bring. The fate of the family property, the history of this not-so-tiny town, and the limits of Matt and Elises love for each other are inextricably bound up with Gracies disappearance. Everything for the Sorenson family is about to changethe messy tangle of their past, the harrowing truth of their present, and whether or not their love will survive a parents worst nightmare.

I expected a fast paced thriller vibe, but this is a slow burn family drama. I loved the Lake Placid setting, and felt the inner complexities of marriage were realistically written. However, I didn‘t connect with any of the characters and found some of the language around disabilities to be ableist and problematic. I enjoyed the story and was invested enough to finish, but overall, this fell flat for me. 2.5⭐️

MoonWitch94 This is on my tbr. I‘ll be prepared for be some of that. The Lake Placid setting is what drew me to the story. 1y

A new to me author, and very engrossing, sucking me in quickly. I very much liked Ms. Cohen's writing. The descriptions of the Adirondacks was often evocative. And I was kept in the dark – I had no idea what happened to Gracie until her parents found out, and I had no idea whether or not Matt and Elise would be able to salvage their marriage.

Matt and Elise take their daughter, Gracie, to Lake Placid, NY to get the family cabin ready to sell. What could have been a couple of weeks of great (and necessary) bonding soon takes a turn when Matt‘s first love is living next door, Elise has a career opportunity she shouldn‘t turn down and animals have inhabited the cabin. Then, on Father‘s Day, Gracie disappears. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
