Fire is like a rumour. You might think youve extinguished it but one creeping, red tendril, one single wisp of smoke is enough to let it leap back into life again. Especially if someone is watching, waiting to fan the flames ... New school. Tick. New town. Tick. New surname. Tick. Social media profiles? Erased. Theres nothing to trace Anna back to her old life. Nothing to link her to the incident. At least thats what she thinks until the whispers start up again. As time begins to run out on her secrets, Anna finds herself irresistibly drawn to the tale of Maggie, a local girl accused of witchcraft centuries earlier. A girl whose story has terrifying parallels to Annas own The compelling YA debut from Laura Bates, founder of the Everyday Sexism Project and bestselling author of Girl Up. BRILLIANT!!!! I have rarely read a book that should be read by EVERYONE!!!! It‘s heartbreaking but so so true for millions of young people out there! It touched me in a way that only a few other books have touched parts of me deep inside. If I could give it a million picks I would!

Abailliekaras Sounds amazing! I bought this and plan to give to my goddaughter (aged 14) - do you think ok for that age? 3mo
Nikki15 @Abailliekaras Yeah I think so. It‘s probably aimed at that age anyway. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did! 3mo
Abailliekaras @Nikki15 thank you! 3mo

So my partner has challenged me to read 96 books by the end of this year which is still another 56 😱 but if I do it my reward is a shopping spree at Waterstones!! Well, I better crack onto my next book ASAP 📚

Pruzy Wow, gotta love someone who offers to get you more books for reading books! 3mo

A treat to chat with Laura Bates at the Festival of Ideas today. I loved Girl Up and Misogynation. Laura kindly signed The Burning for my god-daughter. ✨

I‘m currently reading The Burning by Laura Bates. I like the issues raised in this book. It‘s about online abuse,m and sexual harassment. Though I feel like the story is a little bit draggy but I want to know the ending. Hope can finished it. Wish me luck!

This is exactly the kind of book that should be read in schools - I thought it was really well executed and loved the parallels between Witch hunting hundreds of years ago and the problems women still face today.

I just knew this book would be worth reading. The author deftly links the misogyny & double standards in both the witchcraft accusations of old, & the present day treatment of girls & women. Recommended but it‘s not an easy read.

TW - revenge porn, bullying/cyber bullying.

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Simon & Schuster UK Children‘s, for the opportunity to review an ARC. #NetGalley
