Pickpick

This book was the pick of a book club I just joined. I knew some generalities about the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer‘s life, but this book made his story come alive for me. You feel the characters wrestle with their doubts and fears in the face of the great evil. There is one scene I wish the author hadn‘t included. Finding out it never happened was a bit crushing. If you want a unique view of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, this book is for you.

From Amanda Barratt ~ 75 years ago, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Tegel Prison, heard the news that the attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler had failed. That day, he wrote a letter to Eberhard Bethge from prison. When I read this letter while researching My Dearest Dietrich, I was deeply moved. In the midst of fear & loss, instead of giving into despair, Dietrich committed himself even more fully to God.
His words still ring true for each of us.

Princess-Kingofkings Check out the full post on Facebook on Amanda Barratt's page ~ it is truly moving. 5y
Crazeedi He was one of the few who stood up to the horror. Have you read Eric Metaxes bio on him? 5y

So much fun at Baker Book House tonight with Amanda Barratt. She is a vivacious young woman. I'm thankful that I'll be able to spend more time with her in August at the Fiction Readers Summit.

#BookMail

“Renowned German pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer is famous for his resistance to the Nazi regime and for his allegiance to God over government. But what few realize is that the last years of his life also held a love story that rivals any romance novel.”
