Platform Seven at 4am: Peterborough Railway Station is deserted. The man crossing the covered walkway on this freezing November morning is confident he's alone. As he sits on the metal bench at the far end of the platform it is clear his choice is strategic - he's as far away from the night staff as he can get. What the man doesn't realise is that he has company. Lisa Evans knows what he has decided to do. She knows what he is about to do as she tries and fails to stop him walking to the platform edge. Two deaths on Platform Seven. Two fatalities in eighteen months - surely they're connected? No one is more desperate to understand what connects them than Lisa Evans herself. After all, she was the first of the two to die...

First off, I'm not sure I'd categorise this as a horror. It's a great hook to snag the reader's interest, but Lisa being dead & a ghost (not a spoiler, it's made clear from the start) is almost incidental to most of the book. What it is, is a study of toxic relationships. All those little comments & digs, the gaslighting, the lovebombing. The ending is not quite satisfying enough, although realistic in many ways, so 4🌟

Gissy I really enjoyed this book. So sad too. It was chose in one of the YouTube book club and it was rated so low but not for me. That‘s why I read the reviews but if I like the plot or it sounds interesting to me, I will read it not matter if the book has one star. 2y
OutsmartYourShelf @Gissy Same. I use reviews as a general guide, but I will read anything that appeals. 2y

Lisa Evans hangs around Peterborough Train station all the time and sees a man sitting on platform seven. She knows what that means and she tries to stop him. Two deaths on plalform seven are they connected. We learn about Lisa and what happened to her in flashbacks and she as the narrator tells about the station staff and some members of public she sees and their connection to the deaths. It was not what I expected but still a good read.

My alpabet challenge for letter D is as follows:

Dominicana by Angie Cruz
Plalform Seven by Louise Doughty

I have read Dominicana already and it was good. I start Plaform Seven tomorrow!

Who has read any of these two?

squirrelbrain I read Dominicana and loved it - I haven‘t read the other one. Enjoy! 3y

This book is hauntingly told from the perspective of the ghost of a woman who has committed suicide at this train station and now her spirit is trapped at the station observing the station staff, other commuters and other people contemplating suicide at the station. Lisa takes us back through her marriage, what led to her death and also observes her husband in his current relationship. It was a pageturner that I couldn't stop thinking about.

Platform Seven has one of the most misleading synopses that I have ever read. It makes you expect the book to be a mystery/thriller, but instead, it is essentially a slow moving character study. The book ended up dragging on too long with too many unnecessary side characters and mundane details for me to remain invested. It was February‘s pick for the #LiterallyDeadBookclub but unfortunately it was only a 2 star read for me.

Reggie Your trash has been my treasure so stacked! 4y
candority @Reggie I hope you like it! I think I would have enjoyed this one more if I was in a different frame of mind, but what can you do 🤷‍♀️ 4y

This book wasn‘t what I expected - I thought I was going to get a detective/murder mystery kind of story, but it was better! A ghost narrating what led to her death... what a great story!! The bad guy was a really bad guy, the secondary characters were so well drawn, the ending was really positive. I enjoyed this so much.

BookwormM Stacked sounds sort of like the Lovely Bones which I loved 4y
Laru79 @BookwormM I loved the lovely bones too. This is kind of similar, but different. I hope you enjoy it too!! 4y

#BookMail Pt2 This one wasn‘t a preorder but I couldn‘t resist a signed copy of this spooky thriller, so I added it to my Waterstones order. Platforms rm seven at Peterborough Station seems to be cursed. Two deaths in 18 months. Are they connected? And is the platform haunted. Sounds intriguing, perfect for this time of year.

A gripping supernatural psychological thriller. Wonderfully well written. It‘s a slow burning story which draws you in gradually and then keeps you hooked until the very end. It describes perfectly the seemingly charming but manipulative and possessive partner in an abusive relationship. There are some great thought provoking observations throughout the book which are so thought provoking. Dark, compelling and moving with a unique narrator.
