As quaint a time as one can have while still reading a murder mystery. Braun manages the unlikely but charming pairing of newspaperman as inadvertent detective and cat as crime solver well. I especially appreciate that Koko is basically having mood swings and not allowing the routine of his prescience to get stale. There are still sentences that make me wince; chalk that up to the 1968 publication date.

A solid 3 stars. This is a good, solid plot for a cozy mystery. Qwill is smart and funny. The antique/junk plot is interesting and the villain is not telegraph as much. The fauna of characters is fun and not paper thin. We meet Iris Cobbs for the first time. Love her. So yeah, 3 solid stars.

jfalkens I just finished this book this afternoon! 7y
writerlibrarian @jfalkens I saw your pick about the book. I usually add books I've read when I see them as I scroll. Sometimes it's books I've liked or remember well and I put up a review. This one is on of my favourite in the series, A few years ago I reread most of them and I shouldn't have and keep the good memories. Still it's a nice cozy series with quirky characters. 👍🏻 (edited) 7y

This book went by very fast, I just had to know how Qwill, Koko and Yum Yum's next adventure would end!

hgrimes My mom loooves these books! I don't know why I haven't checked them out yet. 7y
jfalkens @hgrimes I like them a lot, they have just enough mystery but not gory and still have light-hearted fun parts. 7y

I actually started reading this series at completely the wrong point, and I don't have all the titles, but I'm loving it so much at the end of a hard, tiring year! In this book, Qwill uncovers the secrets behind an antique trade neighbourhood, and all of it is delightful and interesting and well-written without being too convoluted.

Okay. I officially have no more room on my bookshelf. I've double stacked and triple stacked my way to glory. My bookshelf is a real life example of Tetris. Every shelf is sagging because I've crammed so many books in. It is stuffed. Jam packed. Totally full. So...now what? I feel like I should win a medal or something, but I'm also SOL because now I haven't got a place for my books anymore!!!!!! #totalcrisis #nowwhat #jesustakethewheel

TheApesOfWrath Now sell or donate them all and invest in your library card! 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I pass mine on to friends. I have plenty of books that need to be read, so I'm fine. For example, I will try to give away 3 books before I have 3 incoming. 8y
MemoirsForMe Got room under the bed? 😄 8y
queerbookreader @TheApesOfWrath Believe me m8 I'm constantly using the library, like a solid 20:1 library to owned ratio. The ones I own are nearly all either books I've read from the library and liked so much I've bought, or books I've bought used cos my library doesn't have them (that happens really frequently 😒) 8y
