It‘s chilly out, but I‘m trying to enjoy the last days of being able to leave the house without freezing to death. Out on the gazebo with a nice thick book listening to noisy bluejays. 💕

‪Been waiting for this book for like two years, did not expect it to weigh as much as my lardo cat. With the rate I read books lately, I should have it finished just in time for book 3. (I‘m not complaining.)

My first Stephen King novel and I‘m sorry to say I wasn‘t crazy about it. Lacked the suspense and horror I was expecting from King. Maybe this isn‘t a typical Stephen King novel and not great for first timers! But besides that, it was entertaining enough though, and I adored the sweet relationship between the narrator and Mike. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Avanders Definitely not typical king 😉 Maybe try The Shining? 3mo
hgrimes @AlaMich thanks! 3mo

Yep, reading my first Stephen King novel. Canobie Lake, an old school amusement park my husband and I go to in the summers, was the inspiration for this novel, which peaked my interest. So far I‘m a quarter of the way through and still waiting for something to happen. The suspense is killing me!

Ladies, if you want a purse that is ALL the things: durable, functional, compact, AND inexpensive, I figured out the trick - you have to google “man purse”. I ordered this thing from Amazon and it has 6 pockets plus 4 pouches, including one pocket in the back that makes an ideal book pocket! Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072PVTHR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sHztDbERA1818

Eyelit Thanks for the link! Is that the small or large bag? 3mo
hgrimes @Eyelit I went with the large one! 3mo
LibrarianRyan yeah that looks like something my guy carries.

Eyelit Good to know! Thanks again 😄 3mo
hgrimes @LibrarianRyan Men get all the good stuff! It‘s not particularly “sexy” but I typically only need something formal enough to bring to work and this does the job! 3mo
LibrarianRyan @hgrimes My guy changes bags way more often than I do. And he has bags to go inside of bags. I last changed by handbag a few months ago because he bought me a cool dinosaur one, but before that i don't think i changed by handbag for 2 years. He changes if not weekly, then monthly. He has a ton so that helps, but sheesh. 3mo
hgrimes @LibrarianRyan Me too, I‘m so fussy about bags that the bottom of the bag basically needs to tear out before I‘m willing to consider a new one!I‘ve been looking for a while and finally got desperate and scoured Amazon. My husband on the other hand is uncool carny trash and has about a dozen fanny packs. 😂 3mo
LibrarianRyan @hgrimes I used to change my work bags frequently, but then Josh got me a storm trooper backpack which I have carried for almost 3 years, but its just so big. As for my purse, the smaller the better. I prefer a writstlet but my aunt bought this mini structured Michel Kors that she hated. I love it. But I need to get the handles fixed. My wallet however, I have had for 10 years. replacement time is coming but I can not find any i like. 3mo
hgrimes @LibrarianRyan Now I feel like a need a storm trooper backpack! 3mo
Zelma Ooh, you may have just changed my life. I hate purses and am a tote bag kind of gal. But I want pockets and more organization than a tote. 3mo
hgrimes @Zelma Why must totes with pockets be such a foreign concept? My bag this is replacing was tote-style with just one small zipper pouch. It required frustrating amounts of digging to find anything! I‘ve been on the hunt for a while for something more functional and have stumbled on a few I liked but they didn‘t pass the “Will it fit a book??” test. 3mo

I loved this novel! An epic chronicle of 3 generations of a Korean family living in Japan. It‘s fiction, but I learned sooo much about Korean and Japanese culture and history through it and how drastically it changed (and not changed) over the course of less than a century. The level of research and detail is astonishing. It‘s fiction, but so real at the same time. If culture and the humanities fascinate you, this is must read.

Our living room has been dismantled for nearly a month while we work on redoing the walls and floors. So happy to be done and can put my house back in order! Took forever thanks to the previous owner being the world‘s WORST DIYer, but the hard work has paid off - it looks soooo much better than it did before! Leaving the old and worn trim for now for a later project. Working now on putting the library half of the living room back together. Yay!!!

My biggest complaint about Stranger Things (really ONLY complaint, I love that show) is that it‘s not a book! As a joke, my husband surprised me with this book! It‘s sort of a prequel with Eleven‘s mother‘s backstory. So far, it‘s poorly written trash, which is completely what I expected and has not disappointed. I‘m kind of in the mood for mindless trash anyway.

So I‘ve recently bumped Carrie Fisher up a few levels on my Heroes list and bumped her memoir way up on my TBR list because my new therapist kicked me off the depression bandwagon and upgraded(?) me to bipolar, which honestly makes way more sense and answers so many questions. Maybe I can actually get proper treatment that helps this time around? I look forward to digging into this, and I like that it‘s SHORT! (I can‘t finish anything lately!!)

This book was “assigned reading” by my therapist (it‘s like she knows me!). I feel a little bad that I didn‘t get much out of it though. I scored really high on the HSP self-test at the beginning and was excited to read about misfits like me, but the only chapter I could really relate to was the one about thriving at work. I also had a real problem with her hokey garbage solutions. (e.g. Don‘t take life-saving meds! Just smile more and drink tea!)
