Everybody's Normal Till You Get to Know Them
Everybody's Normal Till You Get to Know Them | John Ortberg
21 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Arguing that all human beings are imperfect, a guide to community living assumes that all people are flawed and cites events in the life of Jesus as examples of how people must reach out to other people in order to get help and forge deeper relationships.

In today's episode of the Unabridged Podcast, you can get to know the hosts! Yes, Ashley, Sara, and I dived in to answer some listener questions (and some from our fantastic Unabridged Ambassador community). We answer questions both bookish and not: some about the podcast . . . and a few that made us sweat. (Sometimes, vulnerability is hard. 😂 ) ⬇️

UnabridgedPod We'll share more soon (we had so many great questions that this is part 1 of 2!), so let us know: what questions do you have for Unabridged? 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really wanted to love this one because it was a reccomendation from a group of people I glean a lot of spiritual teaching and wisdom from.

But I just didn't.

The book had it's moments of truth bomb gold, but otherwise I didn‘t feel very engaged in it.

Both the physical book and the audiobook read very academically, and that‘s just not my style.

When this one finished up today, I was glad to be done with it and ready to move on.

Chelseabillups30

God wants greatness of soul—people who will endure, wrestle, persevere, refuse to quit, and cling to His goodness even when there is much they can‘t see clearly.

quote
Chelseabillups30

“In the act of exclusion, we divide the world up into “us” and “them”. These terms do not simply point out that we‘re different......They also mean that we take a posture of rejection and withdrawal toward the others. We refuse to offer them any heart or goodwill. We deliberately indulge in feelings of superiority at their expense.”

quote
Chelseabillups30

People who love authentic community always prefer the pain of temporary chaos to the peace of permanent superficiality.

quote
Chelseabillups30

Don‘t forgive, and your anger will become your burden.
Don‘t forgive, and bit by bit all the joy will be choked out of you.
Don‘t forgive, and you will be unable to trust anybody, ever again.
Don‘t forgive, and the bitterness will crowd the compassion out of your heart slowly, utterly, forever.

quote
Chelseabillups30

God created human beings in his image so they can be friends—intimate, love-filled companions—with him and one another.

quote
Chelseabillups30

Because people who value community are people who own responsibility to deal with relational breakdowns.

quote
Chelseabillups30

Acceptance is an act of the heart.
To accept someone is to affirm to them that you think it is a very good thing they are alive.

@LibrarianRyan @Librarybelle #BBRC 1️⃣. Both! 2️⃣. Chex I guess but neither if given choice. 3️⃣. What are bar sandals? 4️⃣. Lemonade. Pink if you‘ve got it! 5️⃣. Ruffles - particularly sour cream and onion. 6️⃣. Neither. 7️⃣. Tater tots!

suzie.reads Bar sandals are just a strap across your foot instead of inbetween your toes 😊 5y
StayCurious @suzie.reads ah thank you! Never heard that term before. 5y
LibrarianRyan @StayCurious @Suzie I may have made it up. I could not think of any way else to put it. I have had a few people say slippers but that makes me thinking winter indoor foot wear. 5y

StayCurious @Suzie I think she meant to tag @suzie.reads. 5y
Suzie I know she did. I'm most amused. This is my first real interaction on Litsy and it happens by accident 5y
suzie.reads @Suzie your first interaction and it's about sandals and not books 😂 5y
