We answer questions both bookish and not: some about the podcast . . . and a few that made us sweat. (Sometimes, vulnerability is hard. 😂 ) ⬇️

I really wanted to love this one because it was a reccomendation from a group of people I glean a lot of spiritual teaching and wisdom from.

But I just didn't.

The book had it's moments of truth bomb gold, but otherwise I didn‘t feel very engaged in it.

Both the physical book and the audiobook read very academically, and that‘s just not my style.

When this one finished up today, I was glad to be done with it and ready to move on.

God wants greatness of soul—people who will endure, wrestle, persevere, refuse to quit, and cling to His goodness even when there is much they can‘t see clearly.

“In the act of exclusion, we divide the world up into “us” and “them”. These terms do not simply point out that we‘re different......They also mean that we take a posture of rejection and withdrawal toward the others. We refuse to offer them any heart or goodwill. We deliberately indulge in feelings of superiority at their expense.”

People who love authentic community always prefer the pain of temporary chaos to the peace of permanent superficiality.

Don‘t forgive, and your anger will become your burden.
Don‘t forgive, and bit by bit all the joy will be choked out of you.
Don‘t forgive, and you will be unable to trust anybody, ever again.
Don‘t forgive, and the bitterness will crowd the compassion out of your heart slowly, utterly, forever.

God created human beings in his image so they can be friends—intimate, love-filled companions—with him and one another.

Because people who value community are people who own responsibility to deal with relational breakdowns.

Acceptance is an act of the heart.
To accept someone is to affirm to them that you think it is a very good thing they are alive.

I know that‘s right. 💯

There is no healing in hiding.

The capacity for solitude is an indication of strength.

Solitude enriches our contributions to community.

There is no ideal community.
Choose humility and trust over perfection.

Know joy.
Feel delight.
Learn the opportunity for living and growing.
Experience the safety of finding a true home.

A community of loving people is God‘s signature.

God‘s aim.

Our task is to create little islands of shalom in a sea of isolation.

Community is the place God made us for. Community is the place where God meets us.
